Am running Duratrac 285/75/16 on d mods 16 x 8 with zero offset and have used them in the mud and recently up the French Alps snd their snow and have been brilliant.
There are a few pics in my gallery for you to look at |

I've got 285/75/16 bfg muds on standard offset boosts on my 90. They only ever catch the underside of the tub when I'm on an axle twister section, all other times they're fine. Tom

I used to run 285/75 KM2s on my 110 on Boosts but fitted 30mm spacers to allow roundabouts etc to be negotiated (without spacers the turning circle was a joke). Boosts have a +33mm offset so with the spacers that becomes +3mm which works really well. I had no issues after that but be aware your vehicle will become plastered in crud and you have to keep the windows shut off-road or else you and the interior will be similarly plastered! MUD's "Dirt Defenders" or the Glyn Lewis mudflap modification will stop this though.
I now run 255/85 KM2s on +12mm offset wheels (no spacers) and it must be said that the road manners are better than with the 285s. |

Click image to enlarge Loads more mud up the sides than 7.50s on standard steels. Better, but not *that* much better in gloop. Not mine, but these are 9.00R16s on a 1-Ton: Click image to enlarge They're even taller than 255/85R16s and slightly narrower. Shame they're like rocking horse poo. |

I had them on the originals but they extended past the arches so had to fit the wider arches to pass MOT.

You're welcome!
The 285s are just in the arches as set up in the top photo and are legal and pass MOTs with no problems. The 255s are marginally taller than the 285s, but (of course) 30mm narrower, and actually are vastly preferable in just about every respect. I had to trim a tiny bit off the inside lip of the rear wheelarch flares to fit the 255s, but surprisingly the 285s didn't need this (and it was actually only needed on one side, since LR build tolerances mean the whole vehicle is actually a bit lopsided)! 285s in mud or snow are generally useless since they slither about on top, whereas the narrower 255 tends to cut through to something solid better. If there's nothing solid at all, you're somewhat stuffed with either (you'll never get enough flotation with a road legal tyre not to sink). There is a surprising difference in dirvability too, since the 255s are less susceptible to 'tramlining' and other odd behaviours resulting from road surface defects, even though they are not immune. Possibly the biggest issue with choosing 255/85x16 is the relatively limited choice of tyres - BFG KM2 are available in this size, but not the new KO2 sadly, and as far as I am aware there are no plans by BFG to introduce a KO2 in this size. I am a big fan of the Mud T/A (though in honesty I preferred the original pattern to the KM2), but might be tempted to try the KO2 if it was available in 255/85. |

I have 285 BFGs (not as in the Avatar) on the 90 with 30mm spacers with only slight amount outside the arches, pass MOT OK. You may have to adjust the lock-stop bolts as the 285s may foul the radius arms. Jeff
