Temporary CB aerial mount?
I need to use a CB radio in my Defender for a 2 week trip. I won't need it permanently so I don't want to drill any holes!

I have looked at the gutter mounts but they seem to be damaging the softer, rubbery compound in the gutter channel.

I was thinking, What if I attach the aerial to a suction mount? I know I need to use an artificial ground plane but apart from that, will the suction mount be string enough? I'm thinking one of these

Or are there better methods of mounting CB aerials which doesn't involve any damage?

Stick a magmount on your bumper?

If you have a roof rack or bars then a clamp like this will do

Or fabricate a bracket to go behind the rear door hinge

I don't have a roof rack - would have been too easy! Very Happy
Mag mount on the bumper won't be good. The aerial will just be bouncing off the bodywork.

I like the bracket for the rear door hinge. Nice solution.

I used a gutter mount from 4x4CB:

Works well, but where I have poked the cable underneath the seal for the second row doors it leaks a bit in heavy rain, but ok for temporary use.

If you have Puma Defender you have a steel bonnet - ideal for mag mount ariel - that's where mine is going!!

Or use a Midland handheld, plugs into your cigarette lighter socket and is good for 3-5 Km

I knocked up a bracket to mount on the back door top hinge. Used a offcut of stainless and bent and drilled to shape. I might get round to making more when I get 5 minutes and the weather improves Rolling Eyes
