Hi Ian,
Here is where my leak was evident. I might add that it never dripped onto the ground & once wiped off has not return: [URL=] ![]() I'm still not exactly sure of the exact source, and as mentioned once cleaned off has not returned. It is fairly viscous & similar colour to Hylomar. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

Interesting, thanks very much.
This is what Land Rover supplied me for lubricating the shaft splines, just a Weicon grease. It's odd as I have never found this blue fluid on a defender. We have a 2015 double cab, which I did drop the box out of to grease the splines. It was dry, unless LR have finally listened, and greased the very last few thousand in production? ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Actually, now looking at your photos again, I wonder if those bolts that hold the black bracket under the case have had a dosing of locktite?
It sure looks like that to me? I would wind one out to see..... ![]() Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

As I posted early in the topic I had this mysterious fluid on my Landmark, noticed it on about day two. Seems a few months on still no sign of it having returned luckily but would still be comforting to know what it is!! -2015 Defender 90 XS Landmark-

If that's the case I'd suggest it's either a locking compound or sealant that's used in the manufacture of the vehicle, perhaps slightly over-zealously applied and during initial use, warms up, overspills and then settles down as it should be.
If it doesn't continue to leak, I would leave well alone. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

my understanding is the latest models had a new spec grease which it would be nice to think will resolve the worn spline issue otherwise I best starting saving for my 5th shaft which should be needed at about 110k miles.
the grey grease shown is from what I believe what my last one was coated with. I believe the part number for the grease is LR078521 ? sorry if this has been said elsewhere but I think there's a mis-understanding to suggest shafts / splines haven't been greased as my last one (and previous ones) have all looked like there's been no grease ever but I know full well that they were greased? Has anyone experienced a 'blue' one having failed? ![]() |
