Rover v8 distributor
I am looking to get an ignition coil for my Rover v8. I don't know the manufacturer of the distributor and read on another forum that Lucas and Bosch ignition parts are incompatible with each other, is this true? I have a Lucas ignition module on the side of the distributor so does this mean it'll be a Lucas distributor too? While we are on the subject of v8 ignition systems should I also get a ballast resistor for the ignition coil? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Im fairly sure it doesn't matter what make coil you use, but stand to be corrected if wrong,
Give Powerspark a call, I replaced all the ignition parts on my v8 and found them very helpful

Hi Charcoal

The old RPi website has a lot of information which will help you identify the distributor in your engine and also give guidance on easy upgrades to the ignition system

thats the dizzy with the ignition module bolted to the side of it? from memory you only need a balast resistor with the points setup.. which reduced the voltage a bit..

the electronic ignition type runs on normal 12volts.

this comes from my mini days Smile similar setup. 1953 80"

Might be worth looking up the Distributor Doctor on the internet, he seems to have knowledge and parts for this sort of thing.

Thanks for the help everybody, just bought myself a Lucas ignition coil (to be on the safe side) and a ballast resistor. When I finally find an engine crane I'll get the engine onto a stand, wire it up and see if it all works. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
