I was tempted for a moment but then put my sensible cap on. Had we (the UK) been offered the same spec as the rest of Europe, it would have been tempting. However, I'd be too tempted to start messing with the Heritage to make it closer to what I wanted (install Alpine and rear side windows, add a simple stereo, etc). I intend to use the a hardtop for dog duty, throwing stuff in the load area and not being too precious about. Yes, I could protect the seats but they are hardly ideal (colour wise) and I can see myself taking them out, storing them in the loft and adding a spare set; whatever I tell myself, I know I'd get precious about the LE nature of it. So, reason prevailed and I talked myself down off the ledge. A good, preowned, hardtop, that I can tinker with a little and enjoy but not be too precious over makes a lot more sense. |

Got to say I'm fighting the same battle
The Heritage seems To nice inside to use as I would normally use a Defender but I don't need a car I don't drive so I've decided once the mot runs out on my beloved 17 year old Lexus gs300 I will sell it and use the Defender as my daily drive. Good luck with the search for your new one and I look forward to seeing you transform it like the last one |

Thanks Steve.
I've come to terms with the fact that I'm someone who takes care of things - whether it be keeping my mobile in a case or being careful where I park my cars (to avoid car park dings, etc), I'm just wired that way. I collect vintage watches and they prove the point about the Heritage perfectly. I have a few ones in perfect condition and I always find a reason not to wear them because I know the first mark on them will annoy me no end; however, the ones that have decades of patina get worn all the time. If I'd bought the Heritage, I know I'd have found every excuse not to throw the dogs, stuff from our barn, etc, into it... and that defeats the point. I'm sure the right one will come up but the Heritage wasn't it. Had I been offered a SW Heritage when I bought my previous 90, I'd have thought long and hard but (imho) the HT makes the least sense. It really is a commercial vehicle and therefore, seems somewhat contrary to the demographic who would buy a collectable Defender. I'd imagine the HT is the lowest production variant, which will make it collectable in the long run but to use as your only Defender, it seems the least attractive. |

So an update to this.
Dfrs on this forum PMd me last week. He had a brand new, unregistered, 90HT exactly the version I was looking for. I was initially planning on getting an almost new one, not a brand new one. But as the opportunity presented itself I found it hard to resist. So earlier this morning the vehicle was registered in my name. I'm super excited and can't wait for it to be delivered. That's me sorted anyway. I hope the rest of you guys looking will also find what you are looking for. |
