Piston cleaning advice?
Here's a quick one,

before I start scraping and sanding, is there a better way of de-coking the pistons?
It's a 200tdi with the swirl chambers. Someone mentioned burning to me, I've seen it done to the exhaust manifold, but I think the heat may damage the ally.


I have a rebuild thread for those who are interested.

Soda blasting if you have a compressor (Sand blasting with bicarbonate). Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Soak in warm water with soap powder over night - even better if keep it moving with a bit of compressed air.

We use to use this method on large bore Diesel engines ( 900mm) and turbo charger rotors.

Thanks guys, I tried this method and was surprised at the outcome.

I placed the pistons in a large pan of soda water on my burner in the workshop and they came up a treat!
