I have decided to convert it to a pick up with canvas back so if anyone knows of a good truck cab about please let me know

Made some good progress over the festive season, between the constant rain showers
![]() Picked up a decent Truck cab and headlining and started the process of removing the Hard top and fitting the pick up cab. Not sure if the pick up is the way to go ?? Then set to work on replacing the rear axle with 110 td5 Rover axle with heavy duty drive flanges, a tidy axle with no leaks or noises and only has 90k on it. Cleaned it up and painted with 2 coats of POR 15.

Thanks for the replies, I was beginning to think I was talking to myself !!
![]() But its a good way of recording the progress. Will be mainly used to cart my 2 German shepherds around...then again, as soon I finish it, I will probably find another one to build and end up selling it on....Ah well I enjoy working on them and learn more each one I do. |

Well I've hit a bit of a road block with this project.....And there's me thinking it was nearly ready to be road tested
![]() On first inspection way back when I started out the chassis looked to be repairable and only needed a new cross member and one small patch welded on the chassis. A friend of mine said he'd do the welding for me if I removed the tank etc and did all the prep work. So I promptly order a cross member from Clive at Black sheep off road and set about removing the tank. This morning I set about cutting out the rusted part of the chassis and he's were my problems began. Found another 3 holes in the chassis rails, all quite bad and who knows what the rest of the rails are like on the inside, as lots of rust flakes fell out as I cut out the bad bits. Not sure what to do with it now as I don't have the facilities to replace a chassis myself and I can't afford the cost of paying some else to do it. While I am still in 2 minds to weld the chassis or replace, I cracked on with replacing the front axle. At least now if I do go down the new chassis route everything should come apart easy.
Also tackled a pig of a job removing the steering drop arm ![]() ![]() Old axle coming out ![]() Click image to enlarge New one in place off a low mileage td5 cleaned up and painted in 2 coats of Por15. Galvanized turrets, springs seats and a set of new shox off a 2015 puma. Radius arms and pan hard rod with new Lr bushes, cleaned and painted and installed with new bolts. ![]() Click image to enlarge Front half of the chassis looks in good order so while the axle was out I cleaned off all the surface rust and painted up in ....you guessed it 2 coats of POR 15 ![]() Click image to enlarge Has to be the most rewarding part of the build bolting on new parts and cleaned up parts. Today's job is to finish of the steering links and install the Terrafirma heavy duty steering bars , I am not a great fan of the TF stuff but their heavy duty bars do look impressive for the price. |

Front axle now complete with heavy Duty TF steering bars. Need to get some new front springs as they look a bit grubby...didn't look too bad on the old axle !!
