VDO DTCO 1381 Tachograph
My motor had this tacho fitted when i bought it. I have no need of it, but when I unplug it the speedo and odometer stop working.

Does anyone have experience of these units? Is it just wired in series with the speedo somehow, and i can just short a couple of wires to restore operation, or is there more to it than that?

Those instructions are the old way of installing a digital tachograph, the short speedo cable didn't prove reliable. If it's an early puma it will be like this. If it's newer follow the loom back there should be a yellow box which is a M1N1 adaptor this will have a +30 and +15 power supplies also the speedo signal will feed into this, you will need to join the speed signal wires back together.

Thanks for your replies.

Its a 2007 Puma, but i dont know when the tacho was fitted.

I'll have a look later and see which way it's been done.

I'm guessing that if its the older style then i just need to fit a new speed sensor and reconnect the original cable, then just unplug the tacho and leave the plugs as they are?

Hi DaftOldGit
Just found this thread. I have the same tacho unit and I was wondering if you might still have it kicking around as I’m after the cable?

Thanks Wil

That was eight years ago!
I don’t even have the motor any more.
