Puma2.2 DPF delete
Had my puma 2.2 DPF removed but cat left in place.
DPF deleted in software running great but after 1200 miles and 5 weeks
The DPF regeneration light has come on.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

2.2 has a combined catalytic converter and DPF if vehicle is to EU5 emission standards.

What physical work was actually done?

Did the person who did the work actually know what they were doing ?

It sounds like it's function has not been removed in the software. If it has and the dpf is still partly there it will surely block if it isn't set to regenerate.

Personally i think it's there for a reason and you have paid for it so why remove it the defender isn't a sports car. It's a 4x4 and a bloody slow one at that

Did the person who made the software mods really understand what they were doing? There are very few people I would have confidence in to do this.

It will be interesting to hear what happens when/if the fuel strategy starts dumping masses of fuel down the exhaust to start the regen!

A bodged removal will give more trouble than a DPF ever would (why was it butchered in the first place, by the way?), quite apart from being illegal on the road.

I'd like to understand the thinking behind undertaking this modification? It sounds all a bit 'experimental' to me, although I can see the appeal in not having a DPF (which in itself is a pretty crude solution to anti-pollution control).

Kinda sounds like one of those hotel room operations where you wake up in a bath of ice minus a kidney!!! Any farther South and I'll need to trade the Defender in for a Landing Craft Smile

My idea: The DPF is still in place and sb tricked you very badly Neutral

Now just start the DPF regen anyway. Make the DPF light disappear. And you'll see ..

The ecu was done professionally, the reason it was removed it's a slow farm vehicle that needed its oil changed every few weeks as flooded with diesel. Engine never gets that hot due to farms being only a mile apart. It spent more time in the dealers than at work

if the DPF has been removed - and for the others making unhelpful/sarcastic comments it can be removed as BAS offer this service - the software prob has a glitch.

If the vehicle still drives OK there should not be an issue as there is nothing to get blocked up.

Best bet give Pete at BAS a call he may be able to help

Done professionally? I can hardly believe that sb believes that the removal of the honeycombs really is professional.
Although I do still suppose that your 'professional' did simply remove nothing... ...you've been tricked, man, don't you see?

An EU5 Defender with DPF or an EU3 Defender without anything in the exhaust are professional - like Land Rover delivers it.
Why exactly did you buy an EU5 car from Land Rover? UK provisions? Your own environmental conscience as a farmer?

P.S. You don't need an EU5 approval for a farmer's. In the EU at least.

If the software modifications were done by a professional (someone of the calibre of BAS) then get in touch with them, since they will know what was changed and how much of the DPF monitoring and regen strategy software is still present. If the regen light has come on, it seems likely to me that either (a) the ecu has received a false 'DPF blocked' sensor input, (b) has attempted a regen which (hopefully) cannot take place, or (c) has erroneously turned on the light but done nothing else.

Whilst I do now understand why you had the DPF removed I fail to understand why you didn't remove the cat at the same time leaving a clear exhaust. I know the cat and DPF are a single physical unit but are you sure the innards are discrete?

Given also that there are probably many 2.2 Defenders which operate under similar conditions (farms, quarries, etc) apparently without problems I have to wonder if there was an unresolved malfunction with your particular vehicle, causing frequent regen attempts, which may still be present.
