Supacat, no figures, just plain uneducated common sense thinking. What I am trying to say, there are uncountable comments on here that the standard air intake hard plastic pipe which supplies the intake air to the airfilter box is already restricting the amount of air that the turbo would like to get. So that seems the first bottle neck in the line system, and a line system can only be as good as the first bottleneck it encounters. So by replacing the standard hard plastic bent narrow air intake pipe by the less restricted Entreq version, or by similar, allows the turbo to pull higher volume of air. And if it does so, it should be able to compress (a bit?) more air and send that to the intercooler. I would have a hard time believing that the turbo design parameters are not having some margin, don't believe JLR are installing a turbo which is always working at its red hot design limits. So there must be at least a bit of extra turbo capability provided the air gets to it in the first place. Second bottleneck is the standard intercooler which is quite small and can only cool down so much. So, by installing a larger more efficient Entreq intercooler (or Alive Tuning, or other), the possibly higher volume of air coming from the turbo gets cooled/compressed better, and this should mean more usable oxygen for the combustion. Just making the entire flow more efficient by eliminating a few bottlenecks, which seems may give a few extra Kw/HP in the process. So optimization and higher reliability is what I am after. First, better air volume to the turbo, the turbo then does what that what it can, second, better compressed air cooling resulting in more available/usable oxygen volume, and third but not least, the stainless steel airflow kit which has nothing to do with more or cooler air, but just avoids the standard rubber intercooler pipe from ever splitting again as once happened to me. I guess there is some logic here, no? I am not really after more power, my 122HP and 360Nm suit me well as I consider this cube is what it is, and that is no Golf GTI. Surely you can tune it, you can put a bigger turbo, but I do not believe in the long term benefit of that. I am more a believer in the below wise words. ![]() ![]() Eric ![]() Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. "As the fitted snorkel looked already great on my Landy I couldn't wait to hear the new hissing sound Wild Card 90 told me about. And after driving up the nearby mountains I can definitely confirm the new sound coming from the big black tube. No empty promises in this regard. Thanks WC90!
![]() your welcome Thor44, glad to hear the Entreq snorkel does the job. Their products are consistently good and well thought out. The snorkel appears to amplify the sound of the air being sucked through the intercooler. It isnīt the sound of the turbocharger, but some sort of induction sound. Interestingly, the character changed (unfortunately quieter, smoother) when I replaced the centre silencer with a straight through system. I cannot fathom why a free flowing exhaust should make a difference. The removal of the silencer does seem to allow the turbo to spin up a little smoother. Generally, the mods to intake and exhaust have made the vehicle easier to drive smoothly. When my girlfriend first saw the Landy with snorkel and all the kit on it, she reckoned it looked like the rubbish tip robot - Wall-E. I can see what she means...... ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

Wall-E - the last thing still working after everything else on earth came to an end...I guess the looks are not the only common thing to the trusty Landy.
![]() Back to the sound: I've noticed such sound only on quite hot summer days during acceleration, now I can finally enjoy it every single day. ![]() If there was only a way that the motor (intercooler?) sounded all the time the way it does on the first 50-100m after being parked all day long in the warm sun. I refer to it as something like "beast mode". Do you encounter this as well or is it just me? ![]() |

Without a map which I neither need, nor am interested in, the short answer to your question is no. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Not quite the single item, but a kit which offers the same components as in the wing top snorkel I have fitted. Once again claiming to improve the intake air flow. https://www.nakatanenga.de/fahrzeugtechnik...r-td4?c=65 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |
