I would cut the sound deadening around the mountings and make a decent job of it 2016 D4 HSE

I was thinking about just getting some 3mm rubber sheet to make a gasket underneath if I go that route

I put the sound proofing down and fixed through, it then also isolates vibration from what you are fixing. On some items where bolts passed through the soundproofing I cut a larger hole and packed with washer to the thickness of the mat

I appreciate why you may wish to insulate/isolate the mountings, but I'd make trebly sure that the seats are fitted tight and secure and therefore I'd prefer to cut the sound proofing around the brackets as proposed by RRUK.
I am not for one moment suggesting that you wouldn't secure the seats, so pease don't ate offence, it's just I'm a bit OCD when it comes to safety. ![]() I can of course imagine that some form of insulation would reduce vibration etc. There will be plenty of folk on here who have done the job and lived to tell the tale! ![]() I hope it all goes well ![]() |

It's all very well avoiding putting Dynamat under seat fixings. (I put on top)
But I bet many don't torque to the torque figure and check them like I do. For that reason I'm not worried about it or the seatbelt mounts as they are torqued correctly and I check them. There is no give there at all. All you'll do cutting it around is create a dirt and corrosion trap not to mention if not careful paint damage and that'll corrode even more. Each to their own I say, freedom of choice, freedom of speech. ![]() |

All valid points! I think I'll cut round it, Might source some rubber sheet to go underneath the seat base though, just to provide some protection. As a point of interest, the 2 man benches that were there from factory were just bolted through the carpet and arches, and the spreader plates fitted underneath aren't much bigger than a piece of DIN rail!

Like your connection between 'torque' and freedom of speech..... I'll get my coat. Very valid point Steve. I've seen some awful situations emerging due to inadequate and/or insecure fixings relating to safety. As for creating a dirt and corrosion trap - I couldn't agree more - I've got enough! My wife tells me that freedom of speech is no longer in fashion - a thing of the past. I'd like to disagree but I am not allowed to ![]() |

I know what you mean on the fixings, normally caused by fixings too small or with inadequate spreader plates and or washers.

Is there much point or area behind the dash to Dynamat? Or do we use Dynamite first?

Hi
We were rather against putting it behind the dash unless a customer requested but once we done it and compared the difference to one of our own builds we were shocked, we have being dynamating behind the dash ever since as the result is very noticeable! Cheers Alex Divers ![]() |

Interesting! One to bear in mind. I had considered it but wondered what areas where worth doing there.
