My 57 Defender XS!
Hi All,

Here are some pics of my 110 XS, which I purchased in May 2010 with 23000 on the clock from Westovers in Christchurch. It already had the following dealer installed accessories; full alli plate kit, IBS dual battery system, towbar (which I had them change to 13 pin electrics as part of the purchase deal), soft A bar, lightforce spots, headlamp protectors, dual reverse / fog light conversion, and dog/load area guard.

I have fitted a new Alpine stereo with Ipod input, Mantec snorkel, jate rings front and back, custom built roof rack with built-in HF/VHF/UHF antenna mounts and GPS antenna mount (I found that heated front screen degrades the GPS signal too much), roof rack mounted spot’s, internal roof console with VHF/UHF ham radio and CB radio, and SVX GPS mount.

I have decked out the roof rack with Buffalo board with additional anti-slip strips, I also had an air-dam made for the roof rack by a local fabricator, and now there is no roof rack wind noise at all!

I am half-way through building a new cubby box with built-in mounting for my 100w HF radio.

This is my third 110, as I have previously owned a Y plate SW (one of the first 110’s) and a G plate ex Electricty Board Hard Top (which I had converted to a 3.9V8 Auto by Frog's Island), as wells a G plate V8 Auto 90, a D plate Range Rover, an N plate Disco 1 and a 53 plate Disco 2.

Anyhow, here are some pics: -

That's a beautiful machine Smudge.

Do you get any wind noise from your Mantec snorkel? Mine fairly hums at higher speeds... My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

Only get wind noise from the Mantec Snorkel when going over 65+ and then can only hear it with the window open.

The left-hand radio is a Yaesu FT-8900 Quad Bander, and the right-hand radio is a Lafayette Trucker CB.

I wouldn't say the console was hard to fit, but you do have to plan it out first and get all wires routed, etc. before installing it. Cutting the roof lining was the scarry part!

Thanks, took a while to figure out and run the cables, I used fully shielded CAT6 data cable, and industrial weather-proof RJ45 sockets. Then just needed fit an RJ11 plug to the shielded cable to plug into the Yaesu radio, solder the original CB radio mic plug to the end of its shielded cable, and then to fit shielded RJ45 plugs to both of the mics, (only one mic, the one for the Yaesu radio, is plugged-in in the photo above). Seems to work okay.

I have to say the mic mod is one of the best ive seen...everything else is nice, but no different - but that modification is neat - well thought out and something to be proud of...making the rest of the car somehow better. Mike
