Socks.
Seems like quite a few things have been discussed here, houses, workshops, second vehicles, bikes, motorbikes, knives, watches to name but a few so with that in mind...

I'm wondering what the preference Def2 members have for socks?

What are the current top manufacturers? What designs serve best for work everyday, what about formal occasions not to mention expeditions to remote areas of the globe where a pair of Wolsey's have yet to be seen. Man made fibres or natural? Bespoke, made to measure or off the shelf?

I'm clear that in regards to many things only the best is good enough for some here so lets have a show and tell for that oft overlooked garment for the foot and lower part of the leg ...the humble sock. Bragging actively encouraged.

Usually a pair of sainsburys work socks with a pair of Heat Holders over the top does the trick, especially with SWMBOs staff discount. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

I must recommend the Karrimor Boot socks. I have 7 pairs, 1 for each day of the week, can stretch to 2 weeks with the old inside out trick.

I wear these with my work boots, all year round, I do not ever suffer with smelly sweaty feet, and they keep your feet toasty in winter.

Would not be without these.

And of course the tricky subject of darning.

Cheap and throw away when your big toe makes an appearance, or quality and do the darn?

I have Jeep socks! Shocked

They last very well and are comfortable. I wear them everyday (not the same pair of course!)

Just started to wear darn tough socks, and I like. Lifetime guarantee against holes. Tried their socks for racing and they are top notch, so will buy more for everyday use.

At the moment I'm using the matalan sports sock which are cheap and simple and fit fairly well. The biggest advantage of them though is that worn in conjunction with the puroforts they don't slip off the end of the foot unlike many other types. Nothing worse than barefoot in a Wellington with a sock scrunched into the toe. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I'm still wearing some old army issue green socks. Must be over 25 years old and indestructible. No idea of the make?

Recently given some Icebreaker merino wool ones that go nicely in my muck boots on a cold morning.

Black Everlast socks from Sports Direct - they do for work with boots (also from SD, and for formal with polished shoes and suit)
For rallying/marshalling/fishing etc then two pairs of socks, one being a thick boot sock and insoles. 1999 Defender TD5 110
