One Piece Bonnet Chequer Plate
When installing the one piece bonnet plate, do you need to use a foam gasket underneath?

Also, has anyone had corrosion of the alloy wing top / galvanised bonnet by using stainless steel fasteners ?
Im thinking I will use aluminium or nylon pop rivets instead. Regards

Would suggest you do not use plastic pop rivets. I would be concerned about the lonevitity of plastic pop rivets. Especially when driven on corrugated roads.

Not sure if gas gets are available for larger chequer plate pieces, as the waste factor would be large. I know a local manufacturer has gaskets made for wing tops and this is a manual operation.

Bi metallic corrosion? Have used stainless bolts and nuts on Puma wing tops with gaskets. The drilled holes were waxoyled. So far no obvious problems.

On 300Tdi have had pop rivets pop on the bonnet after doing long distances on corrugated roads.

After drilling the holes touch in with an etch primer. Use Duralac on the Stainless Steel nuts and bolts. Plastic washers would also reduce the contact areas.

On my TD5, having ground out over 100 rusty rivets I refitted some of the chequer plste using Aluminium Rivnuts, partially as an isolation layer, partially for ease of refitting

If it is the Mammouth 4x4 one piece bonnet chequer plate it comes with a pre-cut gasket.

Just a quick note on this..... they had mentioned it to me that certain age vehicles have slightly different bonnet shapes and I know they have modified manufacturing to accommodate this.... might be an idea to ask your supplier Wink... might get a replacement item that fits better :thumbsup

Thanks for all the responses, and it is the Mammouth 4x4 one piece bonnet chequer plate .

I think i will use aluminium pop rivets and prime all the holes first before fastening. Regards
