Aftermarket External Temperature Gauge?
Dear Collective,

Has anyone fitted or can anyone recommend an aftermarket external temperature gauge that I can add to my 90 TDCi?

Ideally I was hoping for a 12v jobby with literally just the temperature display but all the ones I've managed to find have internal batteries and / or go the multifunction route incorporating clock etc.

Any recommendations greatfully recieved.
Thanks.

If you have a flat panel to fit it into then I recommend one of these eBay specials, I have had mine for 3-years now and can't fault it.
They cost under £10, 12V powered, totally accurate, reliable and come with a choice of probe lengths.
Just do a search for 12V temperature gauge and you will see several suppliers (China, Hong Kong etc).

Buy the torque app for £3 and a Bluetooth obdii sender for £10 and you can have as many gauges as you like on your phone / tablet screen fed from the ecu

Thanks Guys Bow down

Scan Gauge looks well cool but a tad over complex for what I'm after.
I really like the inset ones and the price is great - the VDO one is in keeping with the car I guess and has the right name on it so well worth a coat of looking at - just not sure analogue is the way to go for this. Hmmm decisions decisions Big Cry

Plenty of food for thought so thanks!

Wow Shocked

Forgive my ignorance but would my BAS tool do a similar thing?

As a pretend farmer it is the law that I have to gawp over field walls whilst travelling - if I had all that info to hand as well I reckon oncoming traffic could be in for a shock Laughing

Riccarton, just tried it with my BAS tool and the Torque app doesn't recognise it.
You do have the LIVE VIEW function on the BAS app although I prefer the layout flexibility of the Torque app as you can set up 5 different screens configured with which ever gauges at whatever size you fancy.

Horse for courses and all that Smile

Hi Camelman, this looks like a really interesting solution. Do you know if any of the cheap OBDii Bluetooth senders on eBay will do? Or do you have a specific model that you use? They seem to start at as little as £4. But I don't want to buy a real cheapo if they are useless!! Thanks

Just to let you know, torque also reads faults codes and lets you reset them Smile

Not sure it is available on ios but there is a similar one called 'Dashcommand'.

I think there have been problems with some of the really really cheap sender units on ebay, mine cost around £9 and is marked 'ProScan', had it a couple of years now with no problem.
As long as you buy from a uk seller, you can return it if it doesn't work anyway.

I'm using the Torque App (Android) with a Scantool MX OBD Bluetooth transmitter. Works perfectly and the setup is transportable to other vehicles (you just setup another profile). It can display any data that is transmitted on the CAN-bus.

The Scantool is a quality transmitter, but probably overpriced. A friend picked up an unbranded on on E-bay for $5.99 and it works just as well.

I bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111688952857 for £7.95
Installed DashCommand from the app store onto my iPhone6, and it works fine, easy WiFi connection.
The fuse cover won't close with the sender unit plugged in, it will require a modification. The sender unit has a lot of flashing lights on it (red/blue) which is a bit fussy. Intake air temp shows up but no ambient air temp (don't know if this is related to my poverty spec HT or not)
