I've just fitted mine (without chequer plate ), the only issue I could see with chequer plate is that they are quite a good fit on the existing set up so if the chequer plate adds another 3or 4 mm depth to the sill they might not line up perfectly with the flexible arch. I could see why they won't fit with rock sliders etc.
That aside, I was surprised at how good a job they do at keeping the crud off the side of the car. I'm running 285s on ET0 wheels so the edge of the tyre is effectively 58mm further out than standard boosts and there is very little spray up the side of the car now (before this I'd wash the car and it was filthy again an hour later...) |

Am I right in thinking they do not fix to the arch, just to the sill? 2016 D4 HSE

I fitted min ages ago and used a small grinder to take a bit off the chequer plate, I did have some pictures on here but can't find them now, if I get time later I'll put some on here for you, but I removed the chequer sills as they were bolted on not riveted, then just took a small amount off, didn't fit very well without grinding but they fit perfectly now. This is the only pic I can find at the moment...

The front Dirt Defenders attach to both the sill and the plastic wheelarch, and fit really well, even with chequer plate. No gaps, and they do an excellent job. If only attached to the sill, they will probably get pulled off when doing something Defender-like...

They fit to the sill (3 holes) and the arch (2 holes).
I just used some small stainless self tappers with mine to save having to drill the rivets out if I ever need to remove them. Probably going to get them sprayed in the New Year to match the body. Here's a pic with them fitted, they're more subtle than fitting the whole wider arch setup. Click image to enlarge |

Hello RRUK
Whilst I agree with your sentiment 'nothing is impossible' I think the issue is that these are formed to take up the space between the standard profile for the lower sill and wheel arch so the addition of chequer plate, and its relief pattern as it wraps around the lower edge of the sill make this a less than ideal (clumsy) fit in these circumstances. I looked at these also, and are going down the custom route (as is so often the way with the Defender) I'm making a set from Nylon and Stainless Steel (like my Mad Flap Brackets)...you can just see the pre-drilled holes in the wheel arch 'extensions' ready for these. It is interesting to compare the shots from above, with and without chequer plate. You can see that with the chequer plate they sit a little further outboard. Still fit very well.
An excellent product. Click image to enlarge 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

I personally agree that these are a great idea,
But also like to acknowledge that without them, the vehicle has a certain signature mark after being off road with the splashes! My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Here's 2 defenders, having been out in the same terrain all day, one with Dfenders and mine without, you can see the difference, and this was a clean day by comparison to other days shooting I've had recently, the entire side of the car gets sprayed.
