Boost alloys on 1989 Defender 90
Hi all.

I'm 16 and I have just bought a 1989 200tdi Defender for my first car. It currently has some aftermarket alloys (pictured below) that I don't really like, they're too small as they don't fill the wheel arch, and was interested in getting a set of boost alloys. I want to know if I will be able to put a set of boost alloys on it and if so, will I need spacers?

I have done some research which seemed to suggest that the rear drum brakes cause a problem with boost alloys.

Can someone please clarify this?

Many thanks, Matt.

I have a 1987 LR90, 30mm spacers and Boost Alloys off a 2014 model.
The spacers were on for the last set of wheels/tyres.

It's not the wheels which "fill the arches" - it's the tyres. You could

I did have LR Tornado alloys fitted to my 1988 90 with drums on the back, no spacers. Unless Boosts are different where they fit the hubs, they should fit in the same way, although I have not personally tried it.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

the black cap you see poking out of the middle of the wheel on your pic.....

thats because you don't have spacers on the 90 ....... if you did you would be able to put the center cap for the wheel back on Thumbs Up

Great first car! Bow down

You will find the rears will fit ok but you will find the front drive flange bolts will not allow the wheel to fit tight & square to the the hub

I removed the split washers from the drive flange bolts & that helped but i was not happy that the wheel was mating correctly so fitted 30mm spacers

as Fathaggis has said it also allows the center caps to be fitted
