It's the oil, wax or whatever else that gives the protection to the bare metal surfaces and to the thin ali. The covering stops stone chips from propegating into rust patches etc. It protects from salts and muds that cling. I did mine when new. Still good so I'm glad I did it 4 years ago. Dinitrol and it looks smarter than rust

Bilt hamber do a clear wax instead of the tar look but the product is pretty similar with the same application. I've seen some testing on the net somewhere that shows the Bilt hamber products are a lot more protective than the others too. Ray

Hmm, that Bilt Hamber stuff sounds interesting. I get that the nature of the thickness and the wax/oil that protects and it's a bit of a vain question. Just feels a bit worrying doing it to a brand new factory vehicle, but much less worrying that the rust a few years later for sure!
Bilt hamber googling here i come. |

I think I'd apply it I bit thicker than the link you put up for stone chips etc but it does give a standard factory look after application. Ray

No mention again for the advantages of Boiled Linseed Oil? Then again probably better painted on in dry warm weather?
