I've started to rebuild my 122 (110+12) and already considering what finish I'd like.
Is anyone aware of a paint that is Land Rover proof? one that is flexible enough to not crack during light off roading knocks, yet hard enough to resist scratching from haw/blackthorne bushes that encroach the greenlanes? Also not stupidly expensive, you might as well plan to paint it twice for the same cost. I'd like my Defender to be smart and professional, representing me when I turn up to a customer's house. But at the same time forgive me for burying the bonnet, and not damage the finish during it's application of mud or when I have to wash the 'fun' off. I've heard of lorry paint, but not exactly sure what it is or if it comes in other colours than white! Any thoughts or experience? HB Currently rebuilding my stretched 110 (now 122) to personal spec, probably going to be a double cab dropside, but not fully decided yet. As above but look here for prices and types. Raptor is also tintable so you have any colour you want...

Totally objective,imo,no such thing as scratch proof. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

interesting, I've had a look at the website and had to chuckle at the chemical resistance sheet, which listed Horse urine!
How are you finding the textured finish? does it hold the dirt? Currently rebuilding my stretched 110 (now 122) to personal spec, probably going to be a double cab dropside, but not fully decided yet. I sprayed my old pickup load area with Raptor, it's very easy to apply yourself and goes off in about an hour or so, very hard wearing, I doubt you could scratch it. I was tempted to use it under the wheel arches and underneath but only bought enough for the tub.
The kit comes as 4x tins of 750mm in a 1 Litre container, then add 250mm of the hardener, shake and away you go. Just screws onto a schutz gun, it doesn't fly everywhere like spray paint, it's like applying underseal/schutz. I agree, that looks great!
A friend has suggested tractor paint (ironically appropriate), I think the colours may be limited a bit though. Ferguson grey, John Deere green, ford blue or JCB yellow..... it's enamel based, does anyone have any experience or comments on that? HB Currently rebuilding my stretched 110 (now 122) to personal spec, probably going to be a double cab dropside, but not fully decided yet. Tractor paint is easy enough to apply either by brush or sprayed, takes a little while to touch dry and is fairly durable but not totally chip and scratch proof. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I have 5lts of ford tractor blue (my roll cage is painted with it) I was going to paint my landy with it but I went for a custom metallic instead. I painted a rear door with a brush in the baking sunlight with it had loads of lines (it was drying as I was putting it on )I tried a roller which just stuck then I had to use a brush  )
I let it dry & wet flattened it. Hit it with the buff & it came up really nice !!!! (door has been lying outside just wiped with my sleeve & pictured it lol) Paint is Selmix single pack polyurethane We use this paint on the boat lifts which is in & out salt water very hard wearing paint. Easy to repair any damage with just sand the damage out slap some paint on to over fill it & wet flat it & polish job done 
Can be spayed/rolled (or brushed )

This is all good stuff, thanks for your input everyone.
I'm currently liking the idea of tractor paint, the irony of it mostly. -Even considering John deere green with yellow wheels! But that'll probably change after a sleep.....
