So finally got another weekend to finish the job

First job was to trim the fuse box support as the it was too close to the +ve battery terminal. I'd already trimmed the bolt after it caught on the metal holder on first installation - that was a shock...

Job's a good 'un - well, need the stickers on the fuse box....
Job is, indeed, a good 'un Jonny and one to be very pleased and proud of I'd say... Bow down

You could've simply turned the bolt around, rather than trimming it, no?... Whistle

Sorry not making myself very clear.

Is there any advantage to having the wingnut arrangement & a clinch bolt vs just a clinch bolt clamp with the cable running directly in and being crimped / soldered /screwed?

Venomator - you're right, but then the square head of the bolt wouldn't be sat in its proper recess and that would have troubled my OCD.... Whistle It would still have been tight and there was 15mm available to be trimmed

Supacat - you're right, I could have done that but the kit came supplied as is and didnt really want to buy more bits.

OK, I was just wondering if there was a cunning disconnection plan for an alternative use...

Any chance you could provide a "parts list" and where you got all the bits from - this is on my list of things to do as well 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

Hi jonnyboy, What is the first anderson connector going to be used for? And why is the wiring so much thicker?

If you were at a camp site or at home would you charge the batteries using one of these anderson connectors?

I'm in the process of buying the same kit from Mobile Center, so will be following your photos soon.

Cheers

Richard

Just spotted some more replies on this old thread of mine. Oops

G-mack - nuts and bolts. Used my 7 year old to go underneath the car and hold the spanner Thumbs Up

Warden - yes they came from the MobileCentre. They have the full kit you can buy as I too wouldn't have had a clue where to start on putting the parts list together. Having the kit and following a few threads on here got me sorted. And Tim there was more than helpful in my planning

Rleslie - the yellow connector, for me, is for jump starting and running a car trailer winch. Made up some jump leads (you can buy them from MC) as its pretty difficult to get on both battery terminals when in this configuration

Fantastic job jonnyboy, I love well designed and installed electrics and what you have done looks great. Its now given me more ideas for what I'm going to do with the 90 and more than likely going to result in more boxes of bits awaiting time to fit. 2003 Defender TD5 Hardtop (current - work in progress)

Inspired by (a) Having a flat battery in the cold and (b) this great write up. In particular the 'back of a fag packet' wiring diagram, which makes life so easy to follow... I have installed pretty much the exact same system, minus the additional fuse box and a few Bus bars. The Blue Sea system being mounted against the rear of the seat box. Here is my effort :

A question on the operation, to check I've not messed something up. All seems good, Switch module LED's light up while driving to show connectivity of the two batteries, due to voltage level.

What seems odd is it stays on even after i turn the ignition off, meaning they are still joined. Logically i guess they should be as the batteries are very new and holding good charge.

But it seems odd to me tat it wouldn't disconnect. Why have the LEDs slowly discharging two good batteries at this point, until they go below X volts.

Does your switch LED's remain on after ignition is turned off ?

Thanks for the note Consumerize. I take offence at the "fag packet" remark. It was actually a napkin.... Wink

That doesn't sound right re the LED. Have you got the switch on the Relay set to Remote? You should hear a "thunk" as it switches on soon after starting the car and then a similar "thunk" of it disconnecting soon after turning the ignition off.

My LED only comes on when I come off Auto to connect the batteries

Thanks John,

As you say when i get in, start the engine and drive off. There is the tell tale 'Thunk' of the Blue Sea relay. At this point my Switch is then Illuminated Red.

Switch on relay is set to remote.

When i pull up to stop, it remains illuminated Red and stays that way, for some time. hours it seems. when i come back maybe at the end of the day, the switch LED's are turned off again. Im assuming there has been a 'Thunk' in my absence, because it does it again when i drive off once more.

So from what you say, yours never lights up unless you manually click the switch to join the batteries ?

Cheers

Glyn
