advise about wiring some kit
OK the time has come to start building a system. eventually it will lead to dual batteries but for now i just want to get this lot in.
cut off (not even sure if its necessary)
anderson
bus bar
blue sea fuse box.
done a little mock up but i have no idea if its correct way to do it.
advise please.

What's the Blue Sea fuse board powering?
Is the cut off where you're planning on putting a split charge doohickey?
Is the Anderson for jump starting?

I think what I'd do is have an isolator for the Anderson run as straight back to the battery as possible, and a separate feed to the extra fuse board. If the future second battery will be powering the fuse board, won't you want the Anderson to be fed from the main battery?

ok thats confused me lol. blue sea is going to power typical accessories like lights (leds) usb sockets etc
why cut off the anderson? probably only used for jumping. might not even bother with it. My 109 thread

good idea to have cut off of the anderson plug and wiring if you are going to used jump starting as safety point isolator between too dc power source Exclamation

Where is the protection in the second battery picture between the battery and the bus bar or are you taking the feed from one of the mega fuses?

First picture is fine. Thumbs Up

I have a smaller Blue Sea setup rated at 60 amps. I used the same protection setup as you with an inline 60 amp fuse as close to the battery positive as practical.

Apolgies for the picture quality. Fuse is contained within the smaller IP 67 enclosure with a spare fuse contained therein. Larger IP67 enclosure contains Blue Sea and relays etc.

Under the passenger seat is yet another IP67 enclosure for distribution. Whilst underneath routing in cable I also took the oportunity to run in an extra multicore cable in case it was required for future additional circuits.

are you comparing my two above or the two in cupboards post?

this is the one i really want to start with but wasn't sure if mega fuse should be before or after busbar?

On reflection both sets are wrong (second pictures) as the Blue Sea and split-charge 'appear' unprotected in Cupboards second picture from the aux battery and the busbar is unprotected from the starter battery, IF the assumption is that the feeds are not coming off the mega fuses? In yours the busbar is not protected from the starter battery. Before the busbar in answer to your query as close to the battery as practical! Thumbs Up On the Pumas the mega fuse is bolted directly on to the positive battery terminal. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

^^^^ What K9 said above, should be as close as possible with in reason. Same thing with audio primary power. General rule is with in 18" max of the battery post but I tend to use closer where possible.

If there was a short it'd just keep going, glow red hot burn off the insulation and anything else in the way and probably catch fire.
That's if the battery didn't explode too. Shocked

It's also possible to use a Blue Sea fuse box as a supply for car audio too if you so wished at a later date providing you know exactly the current draw in question etc.

Personally I prefer to take a dedicated single run direct though for maximum quality and current capacity flow.

Do the Blue Sea's allow labelling of terminals for I.D. Purposes?

Yes you get labels free-gratis with them. They are not IP rated hence my reasoning behind fitting everything in enclosures with 20mm skintop glands. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

the fuse box is just going to be running some very basics accessories at moment a few internal LEDs LED work lamp etc
and it might be a good while before i get round to twin batts etc
just wanted to see my very basic design is safe My 109 thread

Ah, that's good then.
That's one of the things that hack me off with some of them and why I don't own similar items due to the fact only the installer knows what has been fitted without a thorough inspection and check identifying what is fitted before anything else.


I'm sure many don't understand the risk involved unless your confident what your doing, could be left with a pile of cinders if not careful.
I suppose at least it won't fry you though..

I would then initially fit a fuse suitable to the total current draw of the circuits you are using (plus 50%) rather than go 100 amp between the busbar and Blue Sea for effective and correct protection. You can upgrade the fuse later if required.
