I'm not looking for anything fancy and preferably with the minimum install required due to my own very limited ability but I have now ordered the Alpine CDE-173BT (thanks to the recommendation here) and I'm wondering if anyone can offer some speaker tips?
As you can see mine are stuffed and in the (horrid and to be replaced) headlining and the existing head unit is in the dash (which is where I am hoping to put the new one) but should I put new speakers back in the headlining or if not where, without too much wiring - and either way, which speakers

Under the dash is the standard location.

I think standard ones are 4" or thereabouts?

Can't get you any photos at the moment but I just fitted TDCI Hard top rear speaker mounts to the rear of mine in place of the metal covers and then some speakers from a friend, then matched them with speakers in the front dashboard.
I think they were Sony ones (which is reaaaly helpful  ) will get details if you can hang on till I'm home?

The Defender-specific Alpine speakers to match the head unit aren't expensive..

Thanks folks, I am obviously not looking for premium hi-fi sound in a 22 year old 200tdi hardtop with no headlining in the rear!
But, I want to do things right and instinctively I was thinking what is wrong with the original take-offs compared to doubling the cost of the head unit (almost) with the matched speakers (though they do appeal N4S thanks), but maybe they will be ten times better and if only double the cost it might makes good sense vfm wise. Sorry for slow response.
Here are the rear plates I got fitted with the speakers. I ordered the wrong ones which had a step for the rear seat mounts in the tub. There is a version which is just straight along the bottom which will fit without modification. The speakers are Sony XS-F1020SL and for my untrained ear- they are very good

Have a 200 tdi HT too with no headlining. Used closed cell memory foam for the headlining. The rear speaker corners are available from Mudstuff UK, with either a 4 or 5 inch cut out. I wired the front ones into the dash after making a glove box from MDF and covering it in black vinyl, a far cheaper option which matches the dash and looks well when finished. Just make a template for the rear corners and do the same from MDF and black vinyl. The Raptor dash was added and fits in well. CB now fitted and all wiring now done for auxiliary lighting/USB etc.

I bought these which are now fitted, but they came with no grills and I'm struggling to find some suitable - help please Rob
