And if you are on Islay, you should really take the ferry across from Port Askaig to Feolin on the Island of Jura (mostly sideways as the tide rips through at about 8 knots). The road up the east coast used to be driveable (40 years ago) all the way to the northern end of Jura, and the views of the whirlpool and overfalls of the Gulf of Coryvreckan, but it's gated these days.
There's a guy with a 12 seater land rover and a B&B/bothy at the very north end of the island who will collect you and give you a guided tour though. |

Used to love going to Islay when we were doing work at a couple of the distilleries
