vibrating/rattling gear stick
Hi All,
I am requesting information as to a problem which has been identified before but there hasn't been a solution as to rectification.
The gear stick vibrate/ rattles under slight strain when the vehicle is doing 50-60 mph on slight gradient on the road.
No engine problem
No gearbox problem
No propshaft problem
Just the gear stick rattle!
This problem has been posted before on Def2.net - but appears no solution has been highlighted.
I have been in touch with my dealer (Lookers, Park Royal, London) who have been in touch with Technical Services at Land Rover who describe this as quote '...Not as issue they are aware of'.
On previous posted information from ?Holland/?Belgium - the issue of gear stick rattle was referred to their dealer who commented that they had seen 4 vehicles with the same problem, but didn't share any light on how the problem was fixed - as land Rover doesn't seems to know!!!
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Hope you are enjoying the arctic conditions in UK

gear stick rattle
Thanks, Grockle for the prompt reply.
My dealer (Lookers, Park Royal, London) and Land Rover Tech services do not appear to know of any mod available. They, Land Rover say 'it's not an issue'
Any more details of the mod so as I can refer them to it!
Would welcome further details of this mod.

Thanks

Mine done exactly that and it was cured by fitting a correctly machine gearstick... 07's had a bad batch of gearsticks. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Mine was also suposedly fixed by greasing the gear shift mechanism and fitting back a missing bolt but was not resolved. Now that I see it's common I am just going to leave mine. Less chance of them breaking something else

Right after a number of PM's

THe first selector i had - they identified and fixed the problem as a selector guide...took them ages to ID the part number, but when done it went away...lasted for 8 or 9 months.

UNTIL

They broke the selector when fitting a clutch.

Next dealer "fixed it" but obviously didnt listen to what i said as its now back - they probably did the grease thing.

What to do. Mike

yes, i'm starting to believe that they all do it (to a greater or lesser degree).
i also believe it can be fixed by replacing the gear selector plate AND the gear stick (not just one of them!).
i wasn't going to fix mine, but have recently asked my dealer to order the parts and replace...

my initial thinking was that it might be "good" to have the rattle. if you read your owners manual it makes very specific reference to "not holding your gear stick while driving". maybe (yes, this is a wild theory) they need a bit of movement and play with such a big box (14 gears)? www.ralton.co.za
