Well I've been nursing it for around 10 thousand miles or so now. A juddering clutch in 1st 2nd and reverse. More recently a drop in fluid so topped up master cylinder when the clutch pedal went soft. Also a burning smell under load and heavy throttle going up hills. Now it as an awful rattle under load, even when revving in neutral - cars done getting on for 120k and hasn't had a flywheel change - had a clutch 4 years ago. It's about to go bang and be un drivable. Currently laid up as I don't want it to go bang and damage other components close by.
Going to replace the lot. Any benefits going to a single mass (solid) flywheel? Or stick with the dual mass. What kits would you recommend - any dos or dont's in this department. ?? 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel. 2016 E220 CDI Night Edition Estate 2014 VW UP! 2x D3 and 1x D4 GONE |

I'd say keep the dual mass & from what I've read Valeo are OEM suppliers.

I ran a Rakeway solid fly with stage 3 clutch. One of the best mods I've done IMHO.
I personally much prefer it. I also use one of their Aluminium clutch release bearing houses. Again great, but because it's metal and not plastic like OEM it does have a very slight rattle, but Neile warns of this, hence why he offers the plastic on to (this just stops the plastic one doing its melting trick!). It is in fact sat in my shed now as the TD5 drive train has come out completely last week so no need any more. I wouldn't trust any of the cheaper solid units personally. Rakeways stuff is top notch, again IMO. |

I would use genuine and do the lot while you are on. If you are doing very heavy work then consider other options. Get it sorted before the snow comes !
