It might also apply to the brakes on 90s

"Vented front brake discs are fitted as standard on 110/130 models, while 90 models have solid discs. However, on 90 models with a heavy duty chassis, vented front discs may also be fitted."

Referring to topix, my 90 has the following extras, so Supacat might actually be right with the the ventilated brakes:

- VENTILATED DISC BRAKES
- HVY DUTY SUSP (L316 USE ONLY)
- T/TOW HTH-D/PLATE/BALL 7P

Thanks Supacat

Have just checked mine while it was having its weekly wash. Mine definitely has vented discs at the front. It came from the factory with a towing drop plate and hitch too. Ive checked the colours of the springs and they correspond to it having HD rear springs (white, green, pink). My VIN plate is stamped at 2505kg.

Cool, I'm a heavy duty kind of chap with a heavy duty LDW defender, instant bragging rights down the pub Whistle Bow down Laughing

Interesting progress.
I will check front discs when I get chance.
Mine didn't have factory fitted tow option though.
And so far no one has posted with a recent 90SW that isn't HD.

BTW is there an option for private individuals to register with Topix. When I looked before it seemed to only allow registered businesses?

I can confirm all identified differences on mine which has been fitted with a towbar from factory.

I've also got:
HVY DUTY SUSP (L316 USE ONLY)
JACK-HEAVY DUTY
VENTILATED DISC BRAKES

as already discussed no factory tow option.

Also intrigued to see:
LESS MUDFLAPS-REAR
when I thought these were standard on all SW (I certainly have them fitted).

There are several quite strange entries, but as long as they have fitted all important parts I don't really mind Very Happy

LESS BULK HEAD
LESS HOOD
LESS MUDFLAPS-REAR

Thinking that any extra heavy duty modifications for a 90 should have different part numbers, I just had a look through the Parts Manual I have (MY07) and there's these items for a 90:

Stiffener - Chassis Frame, RH, with heavy duty rear springs - KVW100590
Stiffener - Chassis Frame, LH, with heavy duty rear springs - KVW100580

Shown as item 40 on this drawing:

Not sure what this part is supposed to do - it looks like it sits on top of the body mounts?

If you wanted to buy them separately they would cost £86.88 each.

I can't see any other parts that make a 90 chassis stronger.

@Thor44: now on this frequency Wink thx for pointing me to this thread.

So, here I am. When I received my current 90 (2.4) in 2011, ordered new as standard continental S 90 SW, my mechanic, who was working on Wolfs in military services, pulled me on the side and whispered to be quiet, because "they send you a military HD version". Yes, it is a SALLDW and VIN check says HVY DUTY SUSP & JACK-HEAVY DUTY as well. Does anybody know what LESS HOOD means and wether LESS FRONT TOWING PIN is normal for a 90?

I never really launched intelligence to find out what military HD means, but was aware of the following: Heavy Duty springs and Wolf rims.Unconfirmed rumor is, the chassis for the military HD version is made from slightly thicker material. Could somebody provide materials strength of the chassis bars for a definitely non-HD chassis? I would be interested to compare and validate that rumor.

Never cared for other details, but after reading this thread I checked and, tata, surprise, yes I do have vented front brakes as well. Could not get to the mysterious No 40 position yet, but have a look in the future. I never thought there are more of these beasties on the road, so am keen on learning more about it.

*update* Just crawled under the Beast and had a look for No 40. Yes, there is that part fitted and also a cabin support bar running left to right attached to it. To me it looks as if load of the heavy duty springs is also supported by that additional bar, but I would need comparing pictures from non-HD to get a further idea. There is also a cable duct thingy not in the parts manual, running from where my old 109 had a NATO generator fitted to the back of the car - *wild speculation* was this car meant to be a Radio Ops Mil version? *even wilder speculation* I know there was once a large batch of sand painted very basic Mil-109s originally meant for the Algerie forces (my uncle bought one), so was there a similar TD4 batch recently as well?

*update2* These No 40 parts hold a separate stiffening bar for the frame. I crawled under a MY16 today and it is definitely a non-HD without these parts and without the vented brakes as well, so, I guess No, they are not all the same now. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

I've also got LESS HOOD and LESS FRONT TOWING PIN.

It sounds like you have a particularly interesting version there.
I don't think mine is anything like "interesting" (no Wolf wheels etc) just an ordinary 90SW in XS trim.
My own *speculation* is that all recent 90SW are in HD spec. HD is the new Black Laughing

Hi Ninety TD4, nice to see that you have made it to this thread Thumbs Up

Interesting information you're posting here...I'll have to crawl under mine as well to find the extra stiffening bar. And finally life-signs from a non-HD 90. Now we can start bragging about how extra heavy duty our little beasties are Whistle Very Happy

Interesting. Was the MY16 a 90SW?
