When trying to decode my VIN, I found that most of the sites I found on the internet seemed to be out of date and couldn't recognise it. Some tired to tell me it has a 6cyl petrol engine.
Now my VIN coding is the same as the infamous 2,000,000 Defender, and in this thread Supacat said that related to an extra heavy duty version. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic38113....p;start=15 Also the BAS decoder translates it as a 90 heavy duty. So I am wondering, is there such a thing as a "standard" 90 SW or are the decoders just not fully up to date with current VINs issued by LR? The code is SALLDWBP7GA??????. Has anybody got a recent MY16 90 SW that has a different code? If there is a difference between standard and HD does anyone know what it is? Thanks. I just order a 90 SW XS trim. No mention or discussion of HD or not. |

There are heavy duty chassis' available, not sure if for 90s though.
Extra stiffeners on the main rails and such. |

@ C4 NLW thanks saw your reply on the other thread.
That's 4 out of 4 "HD" then. Be interesting to see if there any non HD about. Maybe for some export market?? |

Hi
I think the HD referee to the rear spring rating! As if the vehicle was ordered from the factory with a tow bar it sould have been fitted with uprated 2550Kg HD rear springs. Road spring data for a 90 Road spring Part number Colour code 90 2 seat utility (2400 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side NRC 9448 Blue/red Rear - Passenger side NRC 9449 Yellow/white 90 2 seat utility (2550 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side RKB101230 Green/yellow/red Rear - Passenger side RKB101240 Green/yellow/white 90 4 seat station wagon (2400 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side RKB500290 Red/green/green Rear - Passenger side RKB500280 Red/green/red 90 4 seat station wagon (2550 Kg) Front - Driver's side REB500200 Red/green/white Front - Passenger side REB500220 Red/green/orange Rear - Driver's side RKB500270 White/green/pink Rear - Passenger side RKB500310 White/green/purple Just check the colour code's of your rear springs & was a tow bar factory fit option? |

@ DSB 5 out of 5 now.
@ Def90 thanks for some technical insight. Just been out with a torch to check rear springs. I wrote down White/Green/Pink for both sides. Having looked at your list, I went back to double check if passenger side was really purple but as far as I can see they are both the same and white/green/pink. That is MY16 65reg 90XS SW. No factory tow options (had dealer fit rear tow step and 13pin electrics). |

Hi apt100
Been out this afternoon and checked the rear springs colour codes on my 2015MY 90XS SW which also has a W in the VIN. After cleaning off all the Dinitrol on the springs colour codes, it appears I also have the same rear springs on both sides of my vehicle, White/Green/Pink. Click image to enlarge After a little more investigation, RHD 90 4 seat station wagon vehicles from Vin BA000001 should have the same rear springs on both sides, RHD vehicles up to Vin AA999999 and LHD vehicles from Vin BA000001 have different rear springs for each side. So nice and simple. Just to clarify RHD 90 4 seat station wagon From Vin BA000001 RHD 90 4 seat station wagon Rear (Heavy Duty 2550 Kg) Springs on both sides RKB500270 White/Green/Pink. RHD 90 4 seat station wagon Rear (Standard Duty 2400 Kg) Springs on both sides RKB500290 Red/Green/Green. I still believe the HD in the Vin refers to the rear spring rating but I also understood it related to the fitment of a tow bar! This is all to the best of my knowledge as there are other configurations available. Apologies for any inaccuracies in my previous post. |

Def90
no need to apologise. Thanks for the update. That looks just how I remember mine from yesterday. So now we know what the HD refers to... the unknown is who/what decided what spec are vehicles were built to and whether there were any "standard" duty recent 90 SW. |

Running the VIN through the Microcat Parts catalogue which is by no means definitive but does give a good me good idea the build specs tells me that the 2 millionth VIN as posted above, tells me it has Heavy duty Suspension and Heavy duty rear springs. Apart from the jack that is the only thing heavy duty noted.
I would believe that in your VIN ranges then the it is the suspension fitted that gives you the HD moniker. There is no option for a HD chassis or NON HD. The wolf were a very special build. So i would say you all had standard chassis the same as any other 90 off the line. Would ryan from LR like to come out of jis hole to let us know for sure? |

Finally some reasonable explanation what the HD - VIN means. Mine was also fitted with a tow bar in Solihull. I'll have to check the colors on my rear springs....
