According to this thread I checked the price of these synchros and searched for partnumber. I noticed that there must have been a modification from VIN (V)7A743840 onwards (got a different partnumber). Anyone informed of what LR changed?

Great! So as my gearbox repair was done quite a while ago and the problem persists, I can assume that it was done with obsolete parts. Well I think that for me it is better to get a whole new gearbox than to try to repair the syncros again.

I have tried different oils, including the Castrol BOT (my usual fill), and Motul 3000 but they did not make any difference for me.

I bought my car used but still under warranty and my plan was to keep her as long as I could. As its my second car it doesn't get much mileage. It has 84 000 km on the odometer at the moment. Now when the warranty is gone I hope I would have driven her more as the problems seem to emerge after the warranty has expired. I just hope that it doesn't have the dreaded PCJ issue as that would totally break the bank.

PS. My second car is a Disco 2 and I love it. No problems at all.

Thanks & regards

I think this was an issue on early Defenders before I joined the fold with my 2011.

I believe the piston cooling jets have a valve on their feed which cuts off the oil when the pressure is high ie cold, this was failing to unlatch and ultimately destroying the engines.

I have seen this discussed on here in the past so there should be some threads on it.
