Mud tyres for road use only?
So I've looked through various threads but can't really find any answers. So..have any of you out there fitted a mud biased tyre ie km2 or cooper St purely for the looks only and not bothered about if you really need them that aggressive? I only ask cause basically that's what I want to do. I have the original General grabbers on and they just look pants.

So what are you asking?
If you're doing it just for looks, crack on

I have BFG MT KO2 fitted. I originally bought them mainly for the look with the very occasional off road use. In the three years I have run them, they have been off road about 20 times max. Most of this being slightly muddy fields.
If I was to buy again, I would go for an all terrain, either BFG or Cooper.

Have you had a look at the BFG AT KO2? The new one is awesome and looks better than the MT. Going for the 235/85 version in a few weeks time hopefully. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

I have KM2's occasionally off road.
Find them great on road and I'd personally stick to the road use or not over an AT because when you need them you need them however rare an occasion.
Superior tyre to GG's on rise in my book and across the board full stop.
Was one of the best mods I did to mine and I had those before myself and yes, they look stupid too.
Like van tyres on a 4x4 and very skittish too. Shocked

Yes I have had Cooper Discoverers and now BFG KM2s fitted purely for aesthetics. Both great tyres that have given me no bother on the road apart from the Coopers being a bit noisy.

Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Land rover fit muds as standard on some package options (i recall mainly on the sawtooths and option on everything else)

Personally its not about looks, its about use - if your not doing extreme mud or mud often get AT's better on the road etc.

BFG AT's are good and ive pushed them hard in mud too

But its your money Thumbs Up

Some Downsides Used to be: Noise, Wear out quicker, more fuel used, not as grippy in wet etc Mike

I've found GG's to be worse in the wet compared to KM2's.

The GG TR's in my opinion are awful tyres.

I run BFG KM2 muds and they are great on the road as well as off. You will also get 80,000 miles plus out of a set. I don't really understand why anyone bothers with anything else, myself. Rolling with laughter

I'm running the OE fit Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, as that is what was fitted when I bought the truck S/H and had hardly any miles on them. Well mannered on the road, but they do "sing" above about 50. I mostly drive on the road, but when I am off the road it isn't just for fun (which doesn't mean it isn't fun) and it is usually with a trailer and in fields chewed up and trodden about into a mush by Sheep Sheep Sheep , so the MT/R's are a nice confidence booster. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent!

I've got BFG KM2's on my 110, I do about 12 to 15K miles a year with a fair amount of off tarmac driving as well. For performance on the road I can't fault them and when I picked up a screw in one last week I put the spare on which is a Colway Remould mud pattern thingy, the noise from just that one tyre was unbelievable.
I do have two gripes about the KM2, first is that if you're in slimy mud, they have a real problem self cleaning unless you drop the pressures right down to 16psi or lower to make them flex. The second gripe is that after 25K miles they are looking more tha half worn. They look as though they aren't going to last as well as any other BFG tyre I've used before.
