The axle stands are rated at 3 tonnes each, and the front ones came from Halfords for £17.50, a bargain. I do need a better trolley jack with a quick lift and longer handle though, my little one is hard work.

The costs are as follows:

Dinitrol Kit from Rejel £125 includes compressor schutz gun (You can buy an aerosol version instead)

Axles stands £35 for 4 from Halfords

Coveralls, gloves, masks, masking tape and paper etc from Toolstation £40

ACF50 spray £15 eBay 2016 D4 HSE

I think the point about putting the Defender up on 4 axle stands is concern about stability.

I did exactly the same when I did mine, but was terrified that if I accidently knocked the truck it could fall off the stands. I was so careful when crawling underneath, but I did have visions of it falling.

Not a pleasant task...I wished for a two post lift but hey, we can all dream.

What other methods have folk used to raise the truck when spraying/crawling underneath...?

cheers

Thanks for update

Yes my worry would be if it did move....

I have some spare tyres / or log stumps I think I would use. I would like to do this although now I think the weather has changed and not for the better. September was a great month for doing stuff as this.

It may have to wait but I can plan it now and source the bits.

Thanks

Planning ahead is certainly a worthwhile exercise and you might find there's a dry week or weekend you could do it before the winter, never say never!

If the car is perfectly level and on good solid axle stands of the correct rating, it shouldn't move at all. I didn't knock it and you'd have to bang another car into it to exert enough force to shift it.

I spent lots of time reading up, making sure I had all the bits to start it. Well worth the effort. If you have any questions just ask. 2016 D4 HSE

I am told by the supplier that my next and most major modification should happen this month. It was originally supposed to happen in August but stock issues got in the way.

Let's hope he is true to his word! 2016 D4 HSE

Well, next week my Defender get's its first outing as my official shoot vehicle, it's time to test it out and see how it performs in terms of kit and tackle, guns, dog etc. I could do with a decent gun rack mount to secure the guns when travelling, not sure if the paddock one will be any good, there's no pictures of it and I can't tell if it's big enough for a padded gun slip. Anyone got one? 2016 D4 HSE

Fitted the spare wheel today. Not a big job I hear you say.

First I had to have the tyre turned around in the wheel, as I didn't want the white lettering showing, next I fitted my stub lock to the spare wheel carrier on the back door. The instructions say to fit all ten washers and use the large adjustable nut on the carrier to adjust. I found it fitted perfectly.

I cut a piece of decent chammy leather to fit between the wheel centre and the retaining washer to prevent any damage (not that you'd notice once the centre cap was fitted.

The lock fits snuggly and I sprayed it all with ACF-50.

All three wheel nuts are locking versions to slow anyone down who tries to steal it. Pleased with the look.

No more than anyone else's!

The alloy is lighter than a steel wheel marginally too. At some point I'll get a mantec anyway 2016 D4 HSE

Well, that is certainly secure!

... deleted...

Regarding the comment about the wheel weight, what IS the comparative weight between a HD wheel and a Sawtooth then? YOLO... You Only Live Once...

I bought them from the same place as the Sawtooth replicas and my spare tyre.

https://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/

Excellent customer service. The locking nuts appear when you add things to your basket as options, or you can use the chat function (which actually works and you talk to a real human directly) and they will tell you which product to order. 2016 D4 HSE

Well, I think I've fixed the Dog Guard gun rack issue. Sometimes it pays to simplify matters.

I found these bendy foam wire things in Wilkos for a couple of quid, had them in the garage for yonks wondering where to use them. Hey presto, they will stop the gun moving about.
