My current 110 is not finished yet but the setup is identical to a friends setup consisting of terrafirma shocks all round with their light duty progressive +2" springs. The ride quality with this setup was a million times more compliant than standard heavy duty 110 suspension.
When i fit winch to front i will need to uprate front a little but i know this setup as standard is nice. Oh and dont use poly bushes. Make sure they are genuine.

I must admit that somehow I missed your post, Today I have contacted the firm in the link and they have been most helpful. If they are good enough for the M.O.D. then I'm going to give them a try. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Richard,

I have not been able to drive my Land Rover for five weeks due to a prolapsed L5 disk and can symathise greatly. I did try to drive it but the clutch was too antagonising on my condition. (Possible Red Booster Clutch Servo may be worthy of consideration for me?) I sincerely hope you reach a resolution to your issue and it will be interesting to see the outcome. Good luck! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

You have empathy, I have a C5/6 prolapse so I know where your coming from. I have scheelmann seats! For me I think they help however a D4/ RR would be another consideration. Thumbs Up

I would love the arm chair feel I had in the Range Rover but I don't think it would fit. Don't make old people mad.

What a dilapidated lot some of us Defender owners are! I have arthritis’s in my knees and I am also considering the Red Booster route or even an auto box. There are days when I feel like my project vehicle before I started to put it back together with new parts, all worn out with bits of me falling off.. Shocked For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Get well soon everybody... Shocked

When I was twenty one, I had a sports injury and ruptured my L2/3 disc
18 months to fully recover, core exercises ever since, all currently fine,
but I am aware these things can come back later in life to remind you.

If I adopt a poor posture, for long enough, my lower back reminds me.

Now the bizarre bit, the most comfortable driving position for me is in my Defender
I'm convinced due to the more upright position, Berkshire to Scotland with no issues.

A physio' once told me, the most comfortable position to adopt, is the next one,
in essence keep moving, even if only by a small amount, this will help.

I have also had back trouble in the past and find the Defender driver's seat (standard County spec) one of the most comfortable I have ever sat in! It must be a bad back thing!

Just to keep up to date.

I ordered the x large seat pad which arrived today. It is like a lump of jelly, heavier than its size would suggest and cold.
I have tried it on an old wooden stool which is uncomfortable normally after ten minutes, I have been using it for 30 minutes and it is still bearable now that I places a fleece over it to prevent the cold strike. I'll give it a try later in the 110 to see how it feels. Don't make old people mad.

Just to add myself to the Defender2 aching back club, I have just been diagnosed with disc bulge on L4/L5, and had been investigating if any different seats would be beneficial. Around six weeks ago just driving for a short period and I have never experienced PAIN like it before Big Cry , barely driven the 110 since then, back pain started early July,though improving at last, and I know it will be a long road ahead, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

Richard if you let us know how you get on with your lump of jelly mate, as I beleive vibration through the seat is aggravating my condition also Thumbs Up

The RNLI came across a similar problem with their latest Inshore Lifeboat in that with in 90 secs a crew member will exceed the EU hourly rate of vibrations !!! So their solution has been to add air bladder to the seat as well as foam this has cut the vibrations right down.

So you could get a lumber support and fit it to the base as well to help,

Have you talked to specialists in the disabled vehicle market???

Having upgraded to Corbeaus, and very nice they are too, they do naff all for vibrations bar soften it on your 'tush'.

I think you're looking at the wrong solution. I would suggest that if you want to reduce vibration, as we well know from 100yrs of motoring, the shocks/dampers are the way to go. To put in another way, Bentleys and Rollers have the best ride, but they don't have air-sprung seats or any other clever seat-based gizmos. They have superlative suspension. I would suggest going that route. The Bilstein B6 is supposed to be the best there is and I do think that has to be your starting point. Sadly changing four corners worth of springs/dampers is a damned site more expensive than a single chair, but I think the results would be far better. I suppose it depends on your budget and desire to keep a Defender.

Having said all this, I am assuming you've fixed the Defender?
