Hi Pickles,
It just felt wrong, taking the lights out of the box! Almost like your destroying a little bit of history! Still, it's done now, and still have lots more boxes to open Bulkhead next 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Few more bits done yesterday.
All the little bits that seem to take the time! Re riveted the hand brake shoes, cleaned up and painted. Stripped the gearbox in the week, all worn parts removed and replaced with new. New gaskets all round. Hope to get the bulkhead fitted this week. We are getting there slowly Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Right, bit more this weekend.
Gearbox back in after a slow painful rebuild (it really was worn out!) PTO drive unit fitted to the rear, and Rear PTO, stripped cleaned, and checked. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Quick before and after of gearbox! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The 2ltr engine ran well before it was stripped, but glad I decided to pull it apart! Every gasket had just rotted away Oil strainer had 60 years of crud stuck to it, how it ever got oil to the top end I will never know! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Rear main oil seal was like concrete, how it kept oil in I do not know? Click image to enlarge Rest of the engine was good, took the crank out and it was unmarked. One shell was showing a tiny bit of wear, but nothing to worry about. Pistons were unmarked, as were the bores. Valve seats were good, as were the valves, only needing grinding back in. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Still plenty to clean up, It's starting to resemble a Land Rover again 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Looking very smart and you're making it look quite effortless!
I'm surprised, but perhaps I shouldn't be how familiar much of that looks. |

Cheers guys.
Not sure how long it will stay like that? Milesr3......you must be able to appreciate how time consuming putting it all back together is! Nearly everything that was done today, took twice as long as it should have done! Silly things like not putting the Dynamo fixings on the block, then realising that in order to fit them, the inlet manifold needed to come off again Which then means the battery tray had to come off again......schoolboy errors! It's getting there though. Cheers Ian 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |
