Oh where to start...

I have a basic problem with the media-led premise of politicians being "in power" and should dearly like to make them write 200 lines of "I am not in power, I am in office" and remind them that they are there to serve the UK public...

As such, anyone who puts themselves forward as Leader of the Opposition needs to consider their options and presence as a 'statesman' and view their role as being our spokes-person on the public stage - whilst times are changing (as the parent of two in late teenage years, I can pass comment...), there are certain standards of both dress and personal attitude that are appropriate and it would appear that Corbyn misses these by a country mile.

I actually think that some robust Opposition could be good for the process of Government but think that we may well have a factionalised Labour party... the real worry is that they somehow manage to paint a rose-tinted image of Hovis-style adverts for the 'good old days' and get voted in at some stage by misty-eyed youths with no knowledge of strikes, rubbish piled in the streets, dinner by candlelight (as the power is off, not for any sense of romance...) and the dead left unburied...

Like I said, don't get me started - in short, he's a scruffy Censored with no respect for the UK.

I thought Corbyn looks like a typical Defender owner. Rather old fashioned, longing for the past, not wanting change and building a forum around him of those with similar views

How so? Unless he gets elected he can do nothing.

Not sure how the ride can get any rockier - numbers killed in operations and compulsory redundancies over the last few years under so called more moderate politicians.

Those that think clothes are important on official duties should line up to comment on these guys:

Does top button fastened equal respect? Different day and age these days

Yes it does. He is able bodied and able of mind, so can do his top button up and make sure his tie isn't half mast. A slovenly appearance shows lack of forethought, lack of effort and a lack of appreciation for the event. It take five secs to do your button up, five secs more to pull your tie up. Given the reason he is there, to remember the huge efforts/sacrifices these pilots made, ignoring (or I suspect positively rebelling against) these tiny little details equals lack of respect, notably in an environment where most of the attendees (and those being remembered) take a huge pride in their appearance. Indeed in any similar context (any remembrance services) the service men and women who attend, into their 90s, missing limbs, infirmed, incapable, maybe suffering from dementia etc, all make a huge effort to look their smartest, because you are making that effort in memory of fallen comrades.

Anyone can rock up in their day-to-day attire. Taking the time to be smart on such occasions, I still do, engenders respect for your comrades by saying 'I have made a little more effort for you today' and takes you out of your day-to-day comfort zone. That is what 'remembrance' is all about.

So yes, huge disrespect and even more so, IMHO, than not singing the anthem. He simply 'couldn't be bothered' for the sake of 10 secs of effort or as I mentioned above, he feels it is his socialist duty not to kow-tow to the tie-wearing establishment, which as a political statement in a non-political environment, is wholly inappropriate. Imagine if the pilots had the same lackadaisical, give a f*** mentality, he wouldn't even be in opposition.

I'm rather more intrigued by the appointment of Kerry McCarthy as Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

She's from a city constituency and says this on her website:

Quote:
Kerry's main policy areas of interest are: the economy; tackling poverty; international aid and trade; transport; and crime and justice.

which don't seem to have anything to do with the environment, food or rural affairs.

In her blog, she goes on to say

Quote:
Aside from their environmental and health impacts, the meat, dairy and egg industries cause immense suffering to more than a billion animals every year in the UK alone

http://www.kerrymccarthymp.org/news/westmi...?p=1091117

OK so there are some cowboys, but to say that farming generally causes "immense suffering" is wrong and very insulting.

At least she's got opinions I guess.

Corbyn was desperate for anyone to say yes, more so if they were a woman. Squeezing someone wholly inappropriate into a job is a legacy of these two needs.

As far as her point of view on farming is concerned, she sounds like a die-hard veggie to me.... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

Never really thought about it until now, but on reflection our “National” anthem makes no mention at all of the Country I was born in, my father fought for, and of which I’m proud to be a national.

It’s all about protecting an over-privileged, over indulged, dysfunctional dynasty… even the omitted “O'er her thine arm extend, for Britain's sake defend, our mother, prince, and friend, God save the Queen” seems to put the monarchy first.

Long semantic discussion about Queen and Country being indistinguishable follows...

She is according to her website. First in parliament no less, but there are now three.

Nothing wrong with veganism, there are lots of good reasons. In my opinion however, there are lots of better reasons not to be. Like bacon and cheese.
