1996 Defender 90 300 Tdi HT Stornoway Grey
Dashboard
Evening all, I've just fitted a replacement Alpine head unit which has a lot of wires hanging out of the back (iPod, Bluetooth unit and leads for sub) which have made it a tad snug trying to get the unit into the dash. There seems to be plenty of space there to accomodate the extra cable but I need to be able to feed it into the space as I push the head unit back in.

Is there an easy way (or a hard one!) get the panel off that has the clock in it or one of the side panels so I can get my hand in to guide the wire?

Many thanks, Gerry

It's pretty easy to remove the centre stack, if you have a torx screwdriver (the two screws in the HVAC cluster). Theyre' all you need to remove.

You should be able to just gently pull the top (above the vents) of the stack towards you and the clips that hold it in place will pop free.

Otherwise, you can probably put your arm up through the passenger side (Assuming, RHD. I don't have a LHD Car) access panel, depending on the thickness of your forearm, you should be able to just reach the cables.

I did this and it worked a treat. Pop the dash out a little, slide the radio into place and then arrange the wires as you pop the dash back in.
