United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
Newbie - 110XS
Hi All,

Got our 57 reg 110 XS in Tonga Green on Saturday. Driven loads of Defenders (for jobs, etc) but never owned one - absolutely love it!

A very poor mobile pic!

Just towed our little boat home with it -no problem. Not offroaded much yet but done enough to know how good it is. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Welcome to the forum.

That mobile pic will soon be a reminder of what the 110 once looked like Thumbs Up Russell

Cheers all - already made an error by posting in the wrong section - doh!

It's already pretty muddy (live in rural Cornwall)... Very Happy

Tiny niggle - when idling with the clutch out, there's a bit of a rattle from somewhere. Depress the clutch and it goes away. An issue or nothing? It's pretty minor!

As mentioned, we towed our little boat (Salcombe Flyer 440 with a 60) from the "menders" earlier - it hardly noticed it was there (weighs about 500kgs inc trailer)!

Also have a BM 335d Touring - rapid, comfy, handles well but probably the Worlds WORST offroader!! The total opposite of the 110!

SEB - sorry, just a cartoon I used to like when I was a youngun - seemed appropriate!

Any issues I should look out for? Ours has had 37k pretty easy town miles. Not sure if it ever went off road!

One unexpected bit of comedy - our driveway is a very steep (1 in 3) and an extremely hard left on the way in. The BM JUST makes it. Can the 110? No way - not even close! So to get up, we have to go 30ish yards down the road and turn around! On the way out it's not makeable but it only needs one shuffle. Rather amusing! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

If its the lock, that is proving "awkward" !! have a look at the steering stops, a slight adjustment, makes all an improvement !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Hi DOTE,
welcome to the forum!
nice to have another Cornish 110 on here! Cool
There are a few of us about - I'm at the top of the county in North Cornwall looking out over the Atlantic surf.
we'll maybe have to have a cornish members day out some time playing on the cliffs!

enjoy the banter on here, it's got a real nice bunch of people with a shedload of knowledge....

Wyvern - cool 110! I lived nr Polzeath for many years (parents are in Wadebridge) and my wife grew up in Rock - her grandparents still have a house and land there.

I surf a lot (used to rep for Rip Curl, compete, judge comps, etc) so often on the North coast- usually further down (Porthtowan, etc) but often up your way! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Ahh well I'm also a surf dude type - but a Goat Boat rider - in the English team many years ago .. used to run the Brits up at Widmouth - but, as a non-emmit, get some respect out on the waves by those who know. Embarassed

Wow - House and land at Rock .. thats the rich end of the county now-a-days .. you need to be titled or have an actting award to buy a place there! Bow down

Thanks for the comments on the waggon - it's our baby and gets a lot of use! we're off out for a few nights later in the month - so will be packing the warm sleeping bags this time! Wink

I'm home some time next week and may be poping down to the camel trail for a leg stretch on the cycle way - so you never know who you may bump into ! Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Hi and welcome Dote....if your getting a rattle when your clutch is out and it go's when you press it in...... it could be your clutch release bearing on its way out Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

Expensive or straightforward to repair?! TBH at the moment it's so minor, I might leave it for a bit. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

I think an independent would be the way to go with any repair as the dealer will stitch you if your out of warranty.....
If its not that bad leave it till you think it needs repairing.....you could get a second opinion of an independent dealer to confirm that it is the release bearing and a price........its a gear box out job.... but it shouldn't cost you the world Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. It's got an Approved Used warranty - basically the same as a full one but with a few very minor exceptions.

Cheers for the advice! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
