Have just been contacted by the senior salesman at the dealer, who says that this is the situation:

All the Land Rovers allocated to Australia were already sold out at some time prior to me ordering mine.

The salesman I dealt with is new and didn't know that there was a dictate (from who I forgot to ask) that when a few more were allowed to be added recently, they now had to include this 'Runout Pack'.

Hence this wasn't explained to me and wasn't on the contract.

Now, I have the choice of either accepting this pack, or pulling out of the contract - because the vehicle must come with the extras.

Will ponder overnight what I want to do, but not feeling good about this deal right now.

Given you would have a spec list with your order from last week, I'd try the "Breach of Contract" route and see where it takes you.....

I'm thinking about it, but I'm not sure whether legal fees and ill will from the dealer when I show up for servicing would exceed the $5000+ that this bloody 'Runout Pack' is going to cost.

UPDATE:

I never heard from Land Rover Australia about my problems.

I cancelled the order with the first dealer, who didn't bat an eyelid,
and with the help of a dedicated Land Rover owner, placed an order
with another dealer for the exact same spec.

The new dealer didn't try to force a 'Runout Pack' on me, and in fact
gave me a better deal than the first one. They have been nothing
but professional and straightforward to deal with.

But at the end of the day, it is solely due to a supportive band
of Land Rover owners in Australia that I've been able to move forward.
