You may need spacers for the 285s depending on the height i.e.75 as it may foul the radius arms although adjusting the lock-stop could prevent this. 285/75s give additional height of about 15mm over the 265/75s so if your are thinking of lowering the suspension then it would make sense to go for the 265s. Do you know what offset the wheels have? I have 8" wide rims and as a result of the offset can run with 305 BFG KM2s tyres on standard suspension with no fouling issues whatsoever. There are tyre calculators about and basically you can enter your current size and have a play changing rims etc. Ideally try to retain the same or as close to the same rolling radius as standard. As mentioned offset may limit the width. The 285s over 265s give an overall difference in height of 30mm, speedo errors are also shown in the chart below.
As an example over standard tyres fitted to Boost wheels the 285s ON 18" Bowlers will increase the wheel height by 3.1" and make your speedo under-read by approximately 10%. The latter I believe can be recalibrated by a Nanocom if you wish. http://www.dakota-truck.net/tirecalc/tirecalc.html If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! TJ101 yours is a 110 which can take the wider tyre, I went 265's on mine with no problem but I have a friend who went 285 and catches on the inner rear wheel arch when towing with a 90. Hope that helps

I thought all newer Defenders had the bonnet letters "DEFENDER" instead of Land Rover as per the older vehicles?
