This thread doesn't directly answer your question, but probably worth a browse

Wera. Awesome spanners. 10/13/17/19 used a lot. I've amassed a shed load of tools since owning a landy. 2 roll cabs lol

Depends what your limits are. I stripped an engine down with a bag of mixed tools, pliers, screwdrivers, chisel and such and a halfords socket set. In a field. Some things are a little larger than the spanner trays give you. Like the radius arm nuts. And the hub nut 52mm socket and you're sorted.
I'm a Snapon man (mechanic being my job) my spanners are flank drive plus. Very expensive and some say over rated but use them on one job and you'll want them all the time ! Mac tools make some good solid spanners at a fraction of the cost of snappn. And with a very close fit tolerance, less chance of ruining the bolt head.... And your knuckles. Snapon Mac tools Beta tools Facom Wera Wurth Some of the top brands in the mechanical arena. Cant say that any of them are particularly cheap but they are all good tools. Don't forget not all tools need to be Snapon, I carry a bluepoint socket set in the motor all the time and I've carried out rather large work with that, |

Cant edit on the mobile site .
Forgot to go on for sizes, buy a 10-19 set, often sold as complete sets and at nice package deals. Bigger spanners needed are21,22,24, 27,30,32. I bought a big spanner set at halfords last year and they working out just fine foe the occasional use they see. Don't forget the imperial spanners. 9/16 for the props. |

Was gonna say, my comment was light hearted, I've got a 99 TD5 so have no knowledge of the more modern builds specifically.
Usually you'll get a good price on a 'Set' rather than buying individual spanners, then there's the odd extra thrown in. Some like brake caliper bolts want specifics like 12 point rings/sockets, hub nuts 52mm box spanner ( I bought a proper socket but its got a chamfered last 2mm and that's a pain in the ass so use the cheapo box usually. Prop shafts on mine are 9/16 AF that might have changed but my thinking is not likely, there's a tool which is apparently easier for that but i managed fine with regular sockets and spanners. There's a lot of opinions on tools and a certain amount of snobbery but along with the fairly comprehensive Teng spanner selection I have a Halfords pro socket set (the biggest kit they do that's almost always on offer) and in 5 years its been problem/failure free and lifetime warrantied, Now I've said before on other forums what i feel about lifetime warranties ie they do you ZERO good when you're in the crud on a dark night bank holiday weekend trip, where you really just need the tool to work, but that's a risk no matter what manufacturer. If you're planning on changing your own filters then a strap wrench/ spanner is maybe better than hammering a screwdriver through it, though thats always worked for me. If you want to home mechanic your bus then I'd say please buy a torque wrench. 3 white knuckles really isn't a setting Not a lot of help on specific sizes I know but don't buy crap, it might seem painful at the time but looked after its an investment not a waste. Oh and screwdrivers, I was never a fan of inter changeable bits until i saw a mates set of Wera ones onsite one trip, and bought some that day off Amazon, again the right tip for the job wins every time. I know this started about spanners... but id also like to add that this Socket set from Halfords is also amazingly good value.
http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/to...panner-set Its currently half price at £125 I bought one of these when i first got my TD5, and on pretty much every occasion of reaching into this box of tricks, I've come out with a socket or spanner that has undone even the most funny shaped, hard to get to nuts bolts and star shaped things on there. The only additional spanner I've had to buy was a huge one for undoing the gearbox filler plug. I have a habit of breaking such tools, and using them for inappropriate jobs, not even scratched one yet. |

It pains me slightly when I see things in our farm workshop done up to the very technical spec of the impact wrench stopping turning. Then there's the "oh that's bigger than 27mm, lets get the 1" air gun out" when really it only needed a few hundred Nm. |
