IIRC there was a black Landy featured in LRO a few years back, with this very same engine slotted-in? I'm sure someone who knows more will be along shortly...

'oilworker' i think planned to put one in his 130... i don't know if he did, he seems a good guy that would probably share the ins and outs.

Well, first check out how many stock parts will work from the South African BMW 2.8 Defender. User Chip is building something like you describe at defendersource.com

Thanks for the replies. I think Land Rover should have fitted a good 6 pot diesel in the defender. I like Merc OM606 that is getting quite popular but the BMW looks like a standard fit once in. There is a chap on LR4x4 who has fitted one and it's going well and has shared what he know's. I will go and have a look on Defender source now.

The best man to talk to about these fantastic engines in Defenders is Jeremy Fearn. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

There's also a foreign bloke I've been talking to who makes bolt-in conversions for the OM606 to either the V8 Auto, or Manual boxes (Has to be a V8 donor as it uses the V8 engine mounts).
His English isn't the greatest, but there's no welding involved. Again though, you'll be pushing the either of the V8 boxes with the 606 (even a ZF HP22/24 Hybrid box). |
