Have you travelled far to be here? I agree with your sentiments BTW Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I trained as a Building Surveyor but due to the last recession could only get work in "new Homes" so did a graduate rotation on site and then ended up in something called the "land Department" where it was clear they all drove nice cars and had a lot of lunches. That seemed like the place for me! So I spent many years buying and selling Land for development for several National House Builders anything from 1 single house plots to 1200 homes. Seems I was quite good at it Untill!!
15 years later I was made redundant and had no choice but to do a bit of consultancy work assisting developers and private individuals on the back of this I built up a brand and have been doing it since 2009. 50% acting as land agent and 50% consultancy work seconded to various companies on contract work. Still love the buzz of doing a deal. Getting Planning permission continues to get harder and harder but that's the challenge. This is Me for anyone that's interested. http://www.cmclandconsultants.co.uk/index.html Just returned from Queige in the alps and seen many renovation projects so keen to see there are a few contacts in the country on here. Nice thread this good to see what everyone does. |

How does knowing what someone does for a living put them in a box? Only if you are narrow minded and have no imagination, and I think that discounts most people who have a Defender in their lives! lol Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

I left the education system at 18 after applying for a dealer management scheme with large automotive groups and was working as many hours as I could for country store as a sales assistant(this paid for the first defender) I then got offered a job working in the facilities department for a clothes importer which is where i got to see my uncle working in the maintenance department which made me realise i should pursue my interests in engineering.
As the facilities job was only a 6 month contract i followed that by working as a panel builder for a local companies which i enjoyed. Following with the site support saw me all over the country on sites from the food manufacture industry to waste recycling. Whilst doing this I applied for an apprenticeship. I made it through the interview process for an engineering apprenticeship at Mars Petcare. After over 200+ applicants i made it through with 5 others. I have just been signed off my apprenticeship as a electrical maintenance engineer and working for a bluechip FMCG company working on a site with assets over 100 million pounds. The day of sign off was a proud moment. The plan is to stay with them for 12 months and see what the progression route looks like before I look at moving my way up the pay scale to other companies. Its very interesting seeing how many people work in the oil and gas industry as this is something that interests me as a career opportunity. |

Sorry Pam I disagree..where do you live? Utopia!i dont want to make a big thing of this but where are the postmen, butchers plunbers taxi drivers ect I have been on this site for a year and I dont recognise many of he posters on this subject posting on many other subjects!Supermarkets and social scientists use where you live ,what job you do and how you speak the language and what you spend your money on as tools to put us all in boxes ...you may think you are immune to this influence and bias but i assure you you are not! Sorry nitram but I don't get what you have against people telling us what they do for a living and how they got there?I find it fascinating that such a diverse range of people with such a disparate range of experience have a common interest in one vehicle. There's also the added benefit of being able to know that undoubtedly somewhere in this community there's someone who has direct working experience of pretty much any issue any of us is likely to come across when we might need advice. This is a good thread. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

@Nitram If you have no interest in the thread, that's fine, but you don't need to keep telling everyone that you have no interest. There are plenty of people who are interested in the thread (as I am, hence starting it) and have contributed something positive to it. The whole point of a forum is that it's open and people can talk about what they want and can select the threads that are of interest to them and ignore the ones that are of no interest. As an aside, I recognise the vast majority of members posting on this thread.
