Ironically, I've owned a Series II and a Lightweight(!) in the past, and those never seemed to bother the wife when we went out in them!
However, to go back to my first post, the issue was that these were not my 'everyday' car and were just for a bit of fun. Am looking at the Bilstein catalogue at the moment...

Try ignoring the air pressure placard on the vehicle and run 28 psi front, 32 psi rear. If that doesn't work, a spoon of cement in her tea?

Not all, but in most cases Landies are for boys. Now they have power steering, AC, electric windows, power brakes, synchro gears (kind of) etc. Just in case fit a mirror on the sun defelector and a grab handle on the roof. They love it! Puma 110" SW

of no real help but when i test drove a 110 utility it was like a bouncy castle with a steering wheel. I have heard they are better loaded down but empty it was horrible so I can empathise with your mrs.
On the other hand the 90 (which i ended up with) is 200% better, the suspension is still like a tractor as in no give at all but the wallowing bouncy castle mode is gone. Pom |

Do the USW & County have different suspension setup?
Mine doesn't seem bouncy and actually seems to take potholes & sleeping policemen quite well, but it could just be that I've got used to it. |

There are 280 lbs/in springs from OME. Softer than OE ones. Puma 110" SW

I think your conclusion is right based on my experience with my Camel. If you put on stiffer shocks it will help alot with kick in the neck when you have a series off bumps. Softer springs might help too but I would like that pulling a trialler.
There are shocks (I don't know with ones) I think my Koni's on the Camel had it too, that don't damp when the shock absorber is pushed together but damp the outgoing movement (at least more). That will help in this case too. Thanks again guys - This forum really is a font of useful knowledge!
I'm confused, though (sorry more questions!)... My 110 USW has the purple/brown springs on the rear. Looking these up on the web, it appears these are now fitted as standard to all new 110s. Is this correct? If so, I presume these are the HD (i.e. 3500kg) springs? So, assuming that the most weight I have on the back is my race car (800kg), trailer (600kg) and tools (80kg), I should be more than OK with the 'standard duty' springs? Which are the green & white (3050kg) ones? If so, and having learnt from experience that it's a bad idea to make too many changes at once(!), I think my order of changes (trying each in turn and seeing if that 'fixes' things) will be: 1. New Bilstein shocks 2. Softer rear springs 3. Maybe upgraded ARBs. I did lower my tyre pressures, and this made a small improvement in ride, at the expense of some sharpness of handling. Also, interestingly, I collected my new NAS tow step, and with the weight of this in the rear of the truck there was further improvement still. Guess since this will be fitted at the very rear of the 110 this should be weight in the right place! 2010 110 XS USW (the slow one) 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (the fast one) 2005 Ducati ST3 1954 Sunbeam S8 |

I do belive they all thave the 3500 springs (hence why they can all be classified as N1 Tax bracket). But when you talk about towing with it, remember that the weight of your race car, trailer and tools is on your trailer wheels...... and the weight on your truck is only the weight of the force exerted down on your tow hitch (If that makes sense). right, green&white are std 3050 kgs.
Basically the 270/420 behave like 300 lb/in. Therefore OME (752 I believe) has those 280 lbs/in. But I can not tell as I have the OME 755. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |
