Changed the bulbs on mine recently and discovered that you can hear the motor's working. Turn on the ignition (dont start the engine), and switch on the headlights, turn the adjustor to the 0 or low position and quickly go to the headlight and you will hear it moving. Its better if the other half works the adjustor and you stay at the headlight. At least this will show if its an electical problem or if you need to re adjust the headlights using the adjustment screws on the headlamp. Had to re adjust mine as i took out too many screws

Thanks for the reply.... So still can't work it out! When you flick the lights on they make a quick wine then thats it, but its like they are wanting to go in the wrong direction...or stuck! they just wont go back to "0", the switch doesn't make any difference. Checked the fuses, all is fine. Looks like a trip to the stealer.... hopefully under warranty. The headlight are rusting badly anyway! |

My Puma had a headlight fault. When started and driven the headlights always pointed to the road very close to the car. After a while they would rise of their own accord and shine on the road ahead. It was a faulty switch which was replaced by the dealer. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Is the headlight retaining thingy properly engaged into the lug that moves in and out to control the headlight adjustment?
I have no idea of the proper name for the "headlight retaining thingy": it is the big black metal circle that surrounds the headlight unit itself ie the black circle that the screws go into and holds the headlight in place. At the 6 o'clock position of the headlight retaining thingy there is a small indentation, which fits into a channel in the lug (looks like a phillips head screw) that sticks out from 6 o'clock position of the headlight hole in the car body. You need to make sure that the headlight retaining thingy is properly seated in that channel. I know this because I could not figure out why I could not adjust my headlights until I figured out that I  this up last time I pulled the headlights out.
The lug also looks like it is adjustable with a phillips head screwdriver, although I have not tried this. I am not doing a good job explaining this but it is the best I can do without pictures. |

the screws in the cut out are for height adjustment(top screw),the one at six o'clock is for horizontal adjust,the dip beam should be 50mm below the centre of the headlight on the 0 postion 2.4 90 XS
