Id go with this. While retailers can near enough dictate the prices this will be the approach for many years to come.

I have my own business as a tile and bathroom retailer. We are I suppose mid to up market specialising in period floors supplying people all over the UK with reproduction floors to old and new designs. We also supply made to measure glass, under tile heating and mirrors. We are a family business, my sister in law has worked for me for nearly nine years, my daughters friend works for me and my son does our two websites and all our IT. I love running my own business. The land rover is perfect as it carries heavy deliveries and gives a professional and classless image to our customers, we also run two "normal vans" for deliveries but my Defender is also my own personal car and so is pampered and loved. 110 Hardtop

I've got to agree with you there Lorryman the high speed ones are less traumatic and most is left for the Magpies to clean up. Some of our guys have been seconded for driver training with the new Siemens stock which will drive themselves through the Thameslink core. They tell me they're a bit hairy when they're in auto mode, a bit like when I was taught to drive, straight into step 3/full 50lb brake but they do have 3 braking systems to achieve max retardation with minimal WSP activity. Maybe in 20 years time we assessors will be assessing computers for their competency. For some time now I've not managed Drivers as they split the grade into mangers and assessors. I prefer the assessing as it enabled me to keep my key and I quite like driving now and again. Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Left school at 16 and did a 5 year apprenticeship in a nuclear plant as a spark and instrument mechanic. Really really wanted to fly though so started hour by hour to do my PPL from 17. Left my trade and went to train as a commercial pilot with £100k loan from NVQ in '98. Got the job of my dreams and now been flying long haul for one of the nations flag carrier since 2000. Training debt just became Defender debts!! 1951 80" S1 2.0

I started my working life as an electronics engineer and through that got involved with the first "home" computers helping people build them and repairing them. I learnt how to program them with machine code, then assembly and decided I preferred software to hardware and took a change of direction.

I started developing software that allowed early Apple computers IIs, IIgs and the newfangled "Mac 512k", to exchange data with mainframes and typesetters and have pretty much been doing similar tasks ever since ! I've ended up writing software in every major language (and some very obscure ones) on pretty much every operating system.

About 5 years ago I started writing apps for mobile devices, originally iOS and nowadays both iOS and Android and mobile apps are pretty much 90% of my job these days. My full time job involves writing apps for a very large digital publishing company. I also run a small hosting company that supplies data interfaces for both my hobby apps and apps I develop freelance and offers web designers hosting with help to complete complex development tasks.

Land Rovers started out as a diversion, a way to take a break from computers and do something completely different at the weekend. I've now owned and competed in Land Rovers for around 25 years. inevitably I ended up installing custom hardware and software into my Land Rovers too Smile http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

I am currently working on a project as a member of Police Staff, but its a fixed term contract. Not sure what the future holds as yet after it finishes. Used to be an archaeologist and have also worked in Museum Education and
my first 20 years of working life was at the British Library near Wetherby, West Yorks.

What I'd really like in any future job is to work no more than 4 days a week, with flexi-time, decent holiday allowance and a short commute - plus the option of being able to take our dog Skye with me. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

Left college a couple of years ago and worked with my Father repairing/ restoring sailing dinghies. Enjoyed it, but didn't like the selling side that much.
Im also a sailing instructor which I love doing.

Also work part time at the local yacht-club as a launchman (will stop at the end of the season) aswell as being a retained fire fighter which ive done since I was 18 (able to sign up) sort of joined by chance and wasn't sure, as wanted to be in the police so was treating it like a work experience rather than uni to get in. With cuts that wasnt to be though. Now im in the Fire service I wouldnt change it for anything and will keep doing it until I cant pass the bleep test! (Our younger members will remember that from school Wink )

Just signed the contract to run a working at height course which is being set up for Colchester Institute training companies climbing (from builders to rescue organisations) and rope rescue along with confined space training.
First day tomorrow! Thumbs Up

Started my working life after uni in export sales and marketing in an automotive parts company, took a break for kids, then changed tack into teaching and ended up specialist teaching ICT and Spanish. Set up 4x4 overlander with Bren as it was something we both loved -4x4s and travelling and then when the company was getting bigger and teaching full time and playing my part in the business was nearly killing me (knocking off at midnight!) I took early retirement from my senior leadership role and devoted more daylight hours to the business. Still teach 2 days a week but that is now for pure enjoyment and getting me out of the office.
