Hi guys,
I bought a second hand 110 Puma two weeks ago, and my ABS light and hand brake lights on the dash are on all the time. I have checked the ABS fuse and it is OK. Checked brake fluid level, was a little over full so drained some, but OK as well. Then I checked the switch under the hand brake rubber cover and tested it with a multi tester. Not sure how to test it, but read voltages with switched released and then depressed. Switch released (Hand brake engaged) gave 0.1V, switch depressed (hand brake realeased) gave 0.71V. Have you guys checked voltages on your handbrake switches or anyone on here with similar warning lights on?? Tomorrow I'm gonna check the ABS relay under the drivers seat, but not entirely sure what to be looking for?? ANy help will be appreciated!! |

I had this after i got marooned crossing a huge rut and it turned out to be an ABS sensor wire stripped of the insulation.. easy fix. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Hi Rob,
Geez easy on those big numbers!! I bought my landy without a service book, thinking its easy enough to get a new one from the dealers, but they have no record of previous services, since they're cash payments and not warranty related apparently. So even though I have 4 months left on warranty, I actually dont. Not gonna spend R40k+ on electronics either!! Good luck with yours! It seems like the dealers dont really always know how to troubleshoot the problems... Much use... RED-DOT thanks for your reply! I'm no technical genius, can you explain how exactly to check this?? Wouldn't have a clue where to even start!! Maybe if you got pics, that'll help even more! Thanks chaps |

Cant help you the ABS/handbrake issue, but if you send your VIN to LRSA, they can tell you the history of the vehicle and confirm the warranty situation. The email is CRCZA@jaguarlandrover.com |

According to the book these lights indicate a fault with the ABS controller. (Not necessarly anything to do with the hand brake)
I had this issue after LR removed the TX Box to change the speedo drive seal, after they gave up trying to fix it I drove it home, had a look around underneath and reattached the earth cable from the ABS controller that bolts onto the TX Box. Problem solved. Cheers, Tim |

Hi Beefmaster, the ABS module is under the Driver Seat (RHD):
This is a pic of the loose earth cable that connects the the Transfer Box (TX Box), on the drivers side (RHD): Click image to enlarge I'm still looking for the reference in the workshop manual........ There should be 3 earth cables together on one bolt on the Transfer Box:

Thanks chaps There is a double insulated wire which is prone to being damaged either side of the front axle with a plug which can allow water in... this is the ABS sensor loom... mine was stripped of insulation after being marooned in tractor tracks and was simply fixed by insulating rather than being replaced. All OK since. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS.. |

Okay, will check the insulation on those wires as well tomorrow, along with the TX Box earth wires... Do I need to take the wheels off to get to that ABS loom??
Thanks for the help guys, appreciated! Dont wanna pay per hour at the dealer for something I can do myself... I ordered myself an OBDII diagnostic scanner, when it arrives I'll check the fault code and post it on here, thats if its not sorted by then! |

Just a quick mention on that. The way to test it is to take the plug off the back and do a 'Continuity check' or 'Resistance check'. But the figures you have there sound wrong. When the handbrake is off the reading should be 12V as it is all sitting at the switch (because it is a open circuit) where as when you put it on the circuit should be complete therefor you will have no voltage....... I hope that makes sense to you? Here is a diagram showing all the wires related: Click image to enlarge Hope some of that helps, Glyn :sheep: Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
