Strange Problem, top speed 39mph after truck runs 1/2 hour
I have a strange thing going on With my truck. After I've driven about 30 minutes, if I turn it off and then started back up the top speed is around 40 mph in sixth gear. He revs are very low and it has almost no power.
I've had to limp home a couple of times from this. When I started the next day no problem! I've checked all of the fuses as I have read that sometimes a blown fuse will cause a rev limit like it's in the low range.
When I drive shorter durations, like 15 or 20 minutes this does not happen.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what this problem might be caused by?

Do you have access to a diagnostic tool or a basic fault code reader? If so what dtc's are logged, what is the maximum MAP sensor reading and do the revs go over 2000rpm?

It could be a number of issues from fuel starvation through either a blockage or air lock to an electrical issue with the Turbo modulator, MAP sensor or accelerator potentiometer to an issue with a short in the engine harness. If you don't have access to a diagnostic tool remove the MAP sensor and give it a clean with carburettor cleaner and coat the electrical pins in contact cleaner. Next check the Turbo loom and plug connections for any breaks etc. also check the accelerator plug for the same issues and coat the plug pins in contact cleaner.
From the symptoms you describe it sounds as if there is an intermittent issue with boost pressure that only manifests itself once the engine gets hot. It could also be a leaking boost pipe that is sealed when cold but once the engine gets hot it is venting though this would throw on the MIL light as the expected readings from the Turbo and the MAP sensor would not match.

As I mentioned in a post last week, It could be the thermostat.
If the engine gets too warm it will go into limp mode but there will be no warning lights.

When it cools down and the ignition is turned off and on again it will cancel it.

If I remember correctly, the l/r has the same engine ecu as transit.
If it over heats, it does not go in to limp mode. It just cuts out. their is a thermal cut out sensor on the back of the cylinder head. No 4 cylinder area.

This I found out by a customer replacing his fuel injection pump on a transit ( On the advice of another workshop). Then it came to me.

A good hunt round with an infra red thermometer, lead to a water pump impeller spinning on it`s shaft. Thus giving the over heating.

I`ve only had this fault a few times, all of which did not store a fault code. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

I'll have a check around and see if something Looks off using your insights.
Which diagnostic tool would you reccomend?
No dealers close to me at all.

Funny enough, after checking all connections under the hood the problem was gone way back then.
I thought I posted it here but must have lost my connection before it logged.
I really appreciate all the advice

Anyway, it just returned so I. Need to buy a Faultmate YMMV.
Any suggestion on where to order?

Have you checked the fuel tank breather is not clogged? Could cut fuel feed after 30 mins running.
