Heated Windscreen into a 2002 110 CSW? Possible/how much?
With the collection day approaching of my recent purchase I was just wondering firstly if it's possible to fit and secondly how much it will cost to put a heated windscreen in to a 2002 110? Wiring looms, switch etc all in.

An old thread recommended National Windscreens but will they have the correct switch gear?

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

No National will not have the kit.

Buy the kit, fit it or find someone that can (I maybe able to assist if you can't fit and are local to me) then get any vehicle glaziers to fit the glass. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Thanks for the reply and the offer - we have moved just north of Blandford so not as close as we were but not that far. I'll look in to it.

Welcome. Thumbs Up

I used these who are very good at what they do for Defender glass fitting. They are also an approved regional fitter for Landyglass.

Perfect I will give them a call. Was that just to fit a window bought from elsewhere or did they supply and fit? May also get a quote for tinting the rear windows in an effor to keep the dog (and anything else) out of sight!

Will a standard alternator provide enough power for a heated screen or will it need uprating? I've read confilciting views elsewhere.

It's protected by a 30 amp fuse. For example two 100 watt spotlamps will draw 16 amps so the alternator you have should be fine. The screen is also timed so not on permanently. With me they fitted glass that was supplied by VGS (formerly Landyglass) I paid Landyglass for the glass, they delivered it there and I subsequently paid First Glass for fitting. In your case they will undoubtedly supply and fit. Sound them out would be my advice.

Still waiting 1st Glass to answer the phone!

Tried Andy at VGS for another view and disappointingly he has said that they have stopped fitting the looms to TD5s as it is a bit of work compared to the Pumas? Makes it sound a little more complicated than I hoped and for me to trying and find my way around!

Hopefully 1st Glass will come back with a better answer....

Just to make it clear its Dave at VGS, VGS was landyglass.
First glass only fit glass for VGS they are a windscreen company only.

You could try Douglas motors in Poole.

If you're in the Poole/Bournemeouth area I can recommend Andy Small at Firstglass Automotive Glazing.

Andy has now fitted several windscreens to my Defender and one to my Disco2 and on every occasion has done a quick and efficient job (he's also put up with many, possibly idiotic, questions and been very forthcoming with information).

I doubt very much that he'd do the wiring, but I am sure he'd fit the glass, and once the glass is in, then an automotive electricion could wire the screen if you didn't want to do it yourself.

I already offered my services in my first post. Do not make it more complicated than it needs to be. If you can't fit the loom look in the local Advertiser, Echo or online for an automotive electrician. They may well come to you or pay a local independent to do it. Glass fitters as a rule know sweet f.a. about electrics as I know f.a about glass fitting but am a Marine Electrical Engineer. Douglass Motors may be your best bet as they have carried out a few overland/expedition conversions on new Defenders. Ring and ask for Marcus.

K9F - I'm not ignoring your generous offer at all, and if feasible would absolutely take you up on it because a) I like to learn how things work particularly off the experts and b) let's be honest it financially attractive when the windscreen is a discretionary upgrade. Other work on the Defender is likely to be non discretionary i.e servicing, belts etc etc.

Always gaze at the Douglass motors on the way past, they have had some great looking ones parked out front.

When I get the Defender I will definitely get back in touch when I've worked out what priority the screen sits....particularly as it's 12+ weeks (probably!) until the first frost!

Thanks to all,

T.

Douglass Motors is like an Aladdin's cave full of goodies. The monster yellow TD5 is theirs and has had many thousands spent on it. The garage attached is not theirs but comes very highly recommended come MOT time.

You can always 'pm' if you need someone to assist fitting the wiring, relays and associated switch or use Douglass Motors as mentioned..

Thanks again - I'll be in touch.

I've always used Upton Autos - equally useful for MOTs!
