Waxoyl - Five years on
It is five years since my 110 was Waxoyld by Rustmaster and I am contemplating whether to have it treated again to keep on top of it. I'm keen to hear any opinions from others who have had a top-up treatment or any experience of a second visit to Rustmaster?

I'm a little apprehensive about having to deal with the overspray issues that come with the Rustmaster treatment, especially on my newly painted black shiny roof. Likewise on the matt black alloys. We have all read the horror posts Shocked

I'm not up for doing it myself sadly, got to know your own limitations - but I would welcome any recommendations for any alternative professionals that have a good reputation. I ideally need someone who understands the need for attention to detail and is willing to mask the appropriate areas and invest in the preparation. Proud owner 110 Utility XS

Froogle it was five years for me too, same treatment, same company. I just got four cans of Dinitrol spray got underneath and did the top up/retouching myself. Ever so easy and damn good stuff, simple point and shoot. Have two cans left over for future top ups or when I fit stuff like the R & T sliders recently.

Just remember with the Dinitrol without sounding like a stick in the mud to use PPE.
It's very easy to get overspray towards your face and breathe it so a mask / respirator is ideal.
Also eye protection, it really isn't stuff you want to breathe or get in your eyes especially as it's solvent based and water resistant.
It is however bloody good stuff, Thumbs Up

Hey K9F I thought you would be on top of the situation Thumbs Up

Dinitrol sounds an interesting option with much less overspray hassle etc. - I guess there are no issues around mixing waxoyl and Dinitrol chemically? Did you steam clean beforehand or just go for a good hosing down?

I would definitely prefer to get someone to do the treatment ideally - so any up to date recommendations would be gratefully received. Proud owner 110 Utility XS

Wire brush after a decent spell of weather to ensure dry. Seriously it would only take about 30 minutes to an hour max if you don't offroad as the waxoyl really still looked good.
Don't waste your money paying someone else.

Thumbs Up

Dinitrol I bought from here:

I have been reading this with interest as I have some waxoliled areas I would like to touch up/top up before winter, is the stuff pictured the sort of product / part of the range that is most suitable ? ( screen shot form the site the most helpful K9F linked )

Many thanks,

Nick.

Hi K9F/Froogle,

I've just got my first Defender 90 and it's been previously waxoyled/undersealed but it's now looking as though the waxoyl has all but served it's purpose and I'm thinking of getting it protected again before the winter and the road salt gets to it.

Potentially looking to do it myself to save some money but going go look at it worst case as though there is no underseal on it, is Dinitrol good enough to spray straight on to the chassis etc once it has all been wire brushed and dried or is it only intended as a waxoyl top up?

Cheers!

I think it's the inside of the chassis/crossmember that is the important parts to protect. The outer bits are easy to cover, but getting the Dinitrol inside needs the lower viscosity version so it covers the insides well. It's a mucky job but worth doing.

Cheers

Simon

Dinitrol should be Kay on Waxoyl but check a small area first.
Be sure to remove all rust prior to appication too.
As above, it's a filthy job but worthwhile.
Mines been on for 3yrs now, it's done well. (Dinitrol) but could do with a top up)

[Dinitrol 3125 I used on inside my chassis last month with compressor and Lance. Then finished with 4951. Used rust converter inside first again using extension.

Ordered this Rejel kit Monday afternoon. It arrived 9am Tuesday am. Very impressive.
From start to finish it took me 2 hours to do complete job both inner chassis and complete underside. Very easy and great coverage. I used the aerosol version, not the one requiring a compressor.

I had already jet washed and let dry for 3 days.

I had a pit so could walk under length of vehicle easily. I suspect this would be painful experience if jacking up crawling about.

Be prepared to get messy. Everything I was wearing went in the bin. And wear a hat, white spirits is not a recommended hair product!

Cost me about £120 for kit. A massive saving over having it done elsewhere, and I know for sure it's done inside and out.

This was for a 90 and I still have some left over for touch up and door innards etc if I get inspired
