so clutch has been working fine since Sunday - yippee
 
jumped in this morning and yep clutch still nice n smooth, no harsh take up when pulling away just smoooooooth. so got about twenty yards and pending fault on the Ultragauge!! and then another ....and another, and another...... 1 every 30 seconds or so !!!! got half way to work and THEN ! I realised there might still be a couple of fuses in my top pocked 
been taking them out the last couple of nights as a temporary anti theft measure - clearly I need to try some different fuses (AND remember to put them back in the morning). |

I got in my Defender this morning to discover an unopened packet of Extra Strong mints that I bought a couple of days ago stowed in the cup holder, I opened the pack and the first mint tasted so good but was disappointed that the second one didn't quite satisfy me so much ....does this mean I need to check the security of the rear brake pads on the vehicle? Steve.

Yes! The resistance value of the MAF sensor and the rubber exhaust mountings will need to be checked too.
Finding issues with all four items and producing marathon threads of totally unrelated mysterious faults in conjunction with the things requested to check will of course be an added unexpected bonus that may captivate me for hours until the will to live slowly ebbs away, I end up clinging precariously by my fingertips to the abyss and I eventually let go and lose all but a passing interest in anything you have to post in future. Can anyone tell me if the fir tree clips used to hold the headlining could be responsible for relaying the Martian messages that I sometimes receive in the big toe of my left foot which makes the clutch on my Defender feel naughty at times? Steve,
since it was the second extra strong mint I'd be more inclined to check the hi/lo switch on the transfer box. clearly checking the front and rear pads are sat squarely in the calipers will do no harm and ensure you apply a liberal coating of copper grease to both sides ensuring smooth operation. as the associated abs sensors are linked via the abs module to the ecm via the heated front screen I'd recommend cleaning that on both sides and while dry give it a thin mist coat of clear waxoyl to keep it that way. I can't help with the fir trees I'm afraid and doubt these are relate to the big toe syndrome which I'm also suffering with but suspect mine relates to the dodgy front axle and clonk clonk.......that said what language does your martian speak - is it clonk clonk? clearly any issues relating from the advice above should exercised under controlled circumstance as I won't be held responsible for any damage, death, injury or worse (or less)

Simple answer no. For the reason that during the Load Lane Solihull Symposium on ‘ Is There Life Out There in Outer Space’, in the late seventies, it was decided by the then ‘British Leyland’ management that all small Land Rover fixings, including ‘fir tree’ clips, would be manufactured in a way that would make it impossible for them to receive any frequencies emitting from outer space. Thanks Caterham I think you've answered my question. I have a persistent brake squeal which I've been trying to cure, I'll try greasing both sides of the pads to see if that helps. Thanks mate.

thanks Gilarion - I think. does this have anything to do with my daughter having to do a schole project on how to sustain life on Mars? Are tata looking into creating a new trade union created on Mars perhaps?
