They mean that jim_bean's truck is outside the office window, next to mine and we went out have a look!!
![]() I'd already suggested the bushes = ![]() and after rocking the motor back and forth by the wheel, the handbrake drum clunks = ![]() So it'll get stripped on Wednesday...though we can't re-produce the clunking noise when driven...typically. |

Yep - handbrake is the most likely contender at the moment.
Still odd that it only happens every few days. Also only seems to happen when its raining! Although could be a total coincidence. |

I had this with the hand brake drum and it would only show after about 20 miles or so.
had it replaced under the used car warranty scheme. |

Did you get the brake light illuminating as well as the clonk?

I didn't get the brake light and it was on my 2.4 truck cab
It only happened when slowing down at low speeds once driven for a while. On a short run it never happened. when it did happen you could feel it through the floor |

It does sound similar. Hopefully the problem will be easy to spot once I have the prop and handbrake drum off!

The most likely reason for this is that although the fluid level is up to the MAX mark, it still isn't high enough to stop the light coming on when the fluid surges to the front of the reservoir whilst the brakes are applied. On my Defender, I have to have the fluid level right up to the bottom of the reservoir filler neck in order to avoid exactly the behaviour you describe. Mine was OK normally, but if you braked hard, or if you braked going downhill, the combined surge was enough to illuminate the warning light. I topped the level up and it hasn't happened for 150k miles since. |

Thanks Blackwolf. I'll top it up to get rid off the light warning coming on under braking.
I'll check the handbrake assembly though to see if can locate the cause of the 'clonk'. |
