please help!!! gears
Hi All. Im new to the site!! can anyone help me??? I have a 2004 90 td5. 60k. had a 300tdi previous with 189000 on clock when sold it. The gearbox on my td5 is awful!!!!! from 1st into second it grinds and even second into third it grinds. I have proper oil in it and have had clutch changed. my mechanic is concerned because an oil leak has appeared from the gearbox. I am serious thinking replace gearbox< or do you guys think anything different. ps my old 300tdi gears were a gem,
thanks, steve. Smile Embarassed

Don't worry about it my last Td5 was like that for over 270,000 Thumbs Up

If it stops leaking you know it needs topping up..... Laughing seriously though, do you know what oil is in it? some seem to like MTF and some like ATF might be worth a change. Won't cure your leak though.

Sadly, they're all like it.
Had to replace mine after just 30,000 miles - Shot bearings!

My original box (04reg Td5 90) lasted 120thou miles, with the help of Difflock oils in the later stages. The next FOUR boxes have lasted a very short time Big Cry Big Cry

5 gear boxes and 4 transfer boxes, but needs to go back for another trans box as have a noise still. Rolling Eyes

But at least this gearbox is "good", shame that I have the trans box noise as it very nice to use, but noise = probs, and my warranty is running Big Cry
